Today I enjoyed the outdoors. I chose to carry......

If my 380 was the gun I had on me and was attacked by a bear I would use it. :D
Same with me, and it would probably only take one round of 380 to put myself out of my misery. Or, one round of 380 to my hiking partner's foot so that I could run away while the bear was busy shredding my hiking partner. Either way - a 380 IS better than a rock.

@460Shooter Congratulations and thank you for starting this thread. Over 1000 posts now!!!!!
This is definitely my favorite thread on The High Road!
No back stabbing or rude comments. Just members that love the outdoors and firearms.
Thanks again!
How about that! I figured it would die out after a few pages. I'm glad it's been a politics and controversy free thread that people have enjoyed.

Springtime in Grimes County Texas.
Absolutely stunning photo of the church!
Man, how I’m waiting patiently for spring!

I came around the pole barn and spotted a woodchuck. We both stopped and wondered what to do. I said “Good Morning”. He said “Good Bye!”

Our next meeting will be decisive… image.jpg
Yeah, it’s just an old silo foundation. But it’s MY old silo foundation!

Still in my pocket, everyday, for the last two years.
No! The 32! Not the Hyacinths…:D

My hunting buddy and I doubled on a couple of Illinois spring turkeys this morning.
He carried his Benelli 3" 20ga and I had my H&R 3" 12ga.

Two tags filled in our beloved North Fork River bottoms.

Congratulations on the double. Nothing more fun than sitting in a creek/river bottoms and listening to the birds gobble.

Jealous! I think the 32 would be a fun little pocket piece!!!

Started week 2 in the Shenandoah Valley.
And you’re jealous of my 32? Ha! :D

I’d love to be where some of y’all get to enjoy. My kids might think otherwise, unless they get to skip school.;)

I’ve been working so much lately my only outdoors has been to clean up the yard.

And trying to whack a woodchuck that has my place surveilled. He only comes out when my hands are full, or when I’m standing at the stove making flapjacks. I saw him smirk. He knows what he’s doing!

Lately I’ve put up a pole barn and an aircraft hanger, so I have been outside a lot, just not enjoying it!:p
I made a batterfence for the cows inside the barn completely out of tiger maple! Some junk trees cut down and sent to the Amish mill. To have a chunk rifle stock sized would have been awesome! I was green just gaming nailing it to the wall! Lucky bovines!

I long for a day without more water. Then I might wade to my own pole barn. All the blow sand on this property and there is still a pond right in front of the door.:)

Seeing the escapades of my fellow heater-packers keeps me going!
Maybe with the warmer weather we can see some big bores!

@Demi-human retirement has its perks. My wife as a former teacher was a supporter of family vacations. Take the kids out of school and take them places.
You may enjoy this area as you are only two hours from DC and all of the history the area offers. Plus the beautiful views of the Appalachian Mountains.
PM me if you have any questions that I can help with.

Okay, so all the good times everyone else was having was getting to me. I needed some air!
I only got a short time, but I can legitimately say, I enjoyed some great outdoors for a few minutes today, re-zeroing a .22 rifle, and I carried,
… my Desert Eagle!

Totally worth the $21. $28, maybe not so much, but after enough fiddling around with Velcro I got it to fit. And I liked it! I can see wearing a nice shoulder holster, with a more common pistol, under my usual vest or jacket.

I wore it all day, even though I didn’t make any cartridges up for it until about two. The five shots I took with some N.O.S. Rainier 335s were clean and tight. No unburned kernels. And no tearing any previous hand wounds back open.

Well four made it from the fifty yards to the truck bed…
Five just went into the stumps/berm to find the fired case one at a time for inspection. All looked good.
I loaded the remaining forty cases after I got back.

Man! They sure are a handsome couple, aren’t they?

I needed to be sure the scope was right on. I’m about to use it and it needs to be exact. Going from Stingers to standard velocity had me move the reticle to the right with the first two shots, then up six clicks and three more shots. I switched magazines fired once and turned two more clicks up on my Vortex 6-18x44. The remaining four went right where I wanted considering the goofy angle I could see the box at. Smaller dots are better.

So, more of a short range trip than taking a whole day to recreate, but I got to take it when I get it!:D

I did get a short stroll down to the boat launch. Up in the sand there was a newcomer to this rock. I felt like it was a long trip to safe water, so I gave her a very large hand.:) D55A5829-C506-45F7-9300-C0E023E4A127.jpeg
So small, she almost wasn’t painted yet!

Alright, alright. I’ll admit. I am a creature of habit! Yes. I did have the Keltec in my pocket. But that doesn’t mean I still wasn’t carrying a Desert Eagle!:D

I had Sunday afternoon to myself after putting in a long work day on Saturday.
I started enjoying the outdoors by checking the river at my crossing. I call it mine because I built it and paid for it. 20220410_153411_01.jpg
Only one Kentucky bass, but it was a beauty. The healthy fish and strong currents ripped line off my reel, but he soon tired and surrendered. 20220410_155707.jpg
Then I went in search of mushrooms, knowing that it was too early. I found no mushrooms, but did see a bit of history if you know what you're seeing. It is a shame really, but folks used to dump their junk in ravines and gullies. There are some examples of that on property that I bought a few years ago.....

Canning jars, stock tanks, old woodstoves, and miles and miles of fencing.
Out of sight, out of mind, I guess.
We aren't much different nowadays are we?
Anyhoo.....I chose to carry my sr9c with a 17rd extended magazine and a spare mag in my pocket. No shots fired, not even at the junk pile.(common plinking site)

Okay, so I wasn't actually on foot, but I was outdoors... driving, here's my local volcano (if you've ever seen a WA license plate, maybe you're familiar).
rainier.jpg

I had this with me:

ZZZZZZZZZZ.jpg

Got home, washed the truck, mowed the lawn (probably gonna rain again tomorrow, but the sun was out a bit today), and rewarded myself (last of the Cubanos from my last trip to Mexico):

That view can never get boring!
Nice pistol also...

You guys just love to temp me with those good cigars! I like them but just can't stop smoking them once I start.

When I was at Fort Lewis we used Mount Rainer to forecast the weather.

If you could see the mountain it was going to rain.

If you couldn't see the mountain it was raining.

Pretty accurate
