One of my favorite memories of Fort Lewis was standing on the parade field looking at Mount Rainier.

It's only 301 feet taller than Pikes Peak but it arises from a coastal plain where at Pikes Peak the surrounding altitude is 7000 feet.

Out changing SD cards on trail cams again last week, took the single six as usual and took a pic of it on one of the cams to go with my other 50 Single Six / Trail Cam pix. First stop was 100 yds. out back; dumped some corn & apples in front of a trail cam where we can watch the critters from the house with binoculars. Coming back later two geese were already on the corn, zoomed the camera in from about 25 yards and got a shot; the trail cam is visible behind them... ..Walked past and realized there should be a shot of the geese with me in the photo. Swapped cards a few days later and there's me with my corn bucket & camera stopped to watch them... .. Single Six not visible in that photo but I was enjoying the outdoors, & carrying, so hopefully we're back on topic and won't get shut down. This is a fun thread.

I live 10 minutes from Kettle Moraine State Forest in Wisconsin and had a chance to hike there this afternoon. I had my P365XL with HST 124 grain +p as well as my S&W Model 60 loaded with snake shot in the unlikely event I need it for a venomous snake. Hiking outdoors is way better than a treadmill in front of a tv, which is what I've done all winter.

Spent more time enjoying/hiking SNP yesterday.

Last day in Shenandoah Valley. Back in six weeks! Think about switching out carry choices is July. Maybe a poll question????

I'm in El Paso, TX. When I go hiking or biking off road, I take my Glock 33. The trails here have enough 4 leg threats and some 2 leg threats. For morning runs around the neighborhood (light jogging), I'll carry a Sig P238. While the .380 isn't my ideal caliber, the size and weight of the P238 are ideal. Will post pics soon!

Easter Sunday sunrise service and church breakfast. We had our family's Easter celebration yesterday, so Mrs farmer and I found ourselves home alone on Easter for the first time in....maybe ever!
. I talked her into mushrooming with me. We hiked and atv'd around our woods for a couple hours. Finally she found our first mushroom of the year, and our only mushroom of the day!

We sat at our camp Overlook swing for a while and watched some lazy deer .
The farm dog went along also and had a great time in the woods.

We had given up on the shrooms, so I pointed the atv towards our bridge and we pulled the fishing rods out of the saddlebags.

I didn't count how many we caught, at least a dozen nice sized bass. It was great outdoor fun! We also had a pair of Honkers scolding us from the bank. They must have a nest nearby. I hope the raise some goslings there.
We released all the fish we caught as they were swollen with eggs. We usually keep one mess of fish when we have mushrooms to fry.
A great Easter Sunday.
I carried my Hellcat for church this morning , in its Desantis Slimtuk.


It seems my old sr9c has become my go-to woods gun. The cheap Fobus paddle holster is a great way to open carry while hiking.

I took Karen here for a couple outings this weekend.


I thought it might be time to wring out a .44 in preparation for getting into Moose country again. So a range session on Friday, and a hike Sunday.

Up into the hills we went.


There are some beautiful rock formations in this area.



More than a few Barrel Cacti were in bloom.


This area has been frequented by Deer and at least one Black Bear during the colder months.


But despite practicing my still hunting techniques with slow soft footsteps, keeping the wind in my face as much as possible, and scanning ahead with binoculars, I found no Deer or Bear. And no fresh sign either. I guess they're elsewhere right now.

The only notable sign was likely rather old, but a Deer bed this size and hidden behind stands of trees covering 180 degrees down slope, will probably be used again.


There's a mine on the way up.


It goes almost straight back for around 33 yards to a creepy looking doll sitting at a dead end.


Maybe it only seems creepy in this context.

Spent Easter weekend in Cashiers NC. Always think that golf courses are really neat to look at, but yes they can be a good walk spoiled. Chasing that little white ball.


Did four waterfalls on Easter day.


My carry was my 415 41mag.

One thing this thread keeps bringing back up, post after post, is that we live in a country full of splendor.


I love the mountains, but I also love the foothills and the ridges...


I was not up here today, but I did carry this (yeah, I know -- it is a Glock, but since SB5078 was passed, I ordered a butt-ton of standard capacity mags and carried it because I was in an FDE kinda mood...)

It was nice to get back to the Smokies this week after leaving in March due to a wildfire.
The bears are active seeing 8. This mother and three cubs were enjoying walnuts in Cades Cove.


I recommend a can of bear spray for hiking in the National Parks it may save you a lot of legal headaches.


Enjoyed one of my favorite hikes to Charlie's Bunion. The ice on the trail added a lot of time to this 8 mile hike, but the views were great.


In addition to the bear spray I carried my LCPII 380 and 415 41mag. I saw a few open carry hikers. I need to find a holster that would work with my waist belt of my pack that would be comfortable.

Went wandering around the Mountains today, got snowed on too.

Took the Glock.



And as always The Buck 110 and the Gerber Multitool



Also took the SAK Trekker.

I used it to split some wood



I did a couple of feather sticks and scraped up some Fatwood. I wood have tried it out on the Ferro Rod but we're under fire restrictions.

Went to 5 of the 6 falls on a hike.

Did a great hike that I want to share with you all this morning. We hiked the Sugarland Mountain Trail from Fighting Creek Gap to Huskie Gap Trail 6.2 miles out and back.
This is the first time we did the trail and really enjoyed it.
We had some nice views and saw lots of wildflowers.


We did see lots of animal droppings onthe trail. It was comforting to have my 41mag in my front pocket.

I've been mushrooming when I can. This is busy time of year for us.
. Sometimes I hop out of a tractor and make a 10min circle in the woods.

I have found enough of the tasty fungi to have a few fried up with a porkburger(local favorite)

As you can see...I carried my fun little GSG 1911-22 this spring.
