Lgs has powder and primers on shelf over a week

At $60 per pound, Id say it's the price keeping them on the shelf.

A couple of weeks ago, I left Varget priced at $48 on the shelf due to price.

I think you answered your own question when you you didn't but any to burn out barrels with.

I visited my LGS today for the first time in many months and encountered the same thing: a surprising selection of guns, ammo, and reloading supplies, laughably overpriced. Titegroup for $50 per pound, CCI #11 caps for $12 per tin, and - this killed me, because it's one of my few "grail guns" - a 27-2 in good-but-not-great shape for $1700.

Light at the end of the tunnel, I hope - but still inside the tunnel.

<edit> The place actually had 2400 available, at nearly $60 a pound. I rolled my eyes, but God help me, if they still have any in ten days when I go pick up my gun, I'm going to buy some.

Hazmat charges don’t look so bad now.

They haven't looked bad for a while. I was the only way to find anything around here for a while, and when it finally came in at the LGS, the prices were in line with what has been posted here.

On the thread above “Where reloading components are available” I saw more posts about places to get primers today than any day in the last 18 months.

My thought was supply is coming back.

But prices are still high.

I’d like some 2400, but at $35. I guess I’ll be sticking with AA7

I paid 49.99 for n135 two days ago. But I won't pay that for 4198 which was 47.99. If I'm going to pay out the nose I'm going to shoot a luxury powder.

If you don’t mind my asking, what region is this in?

I lamented at buying 748 for about $40 per pound with shipping and hazmat spread out over several other items. But that's only about the 3rd time in over 2 years I have seen 748 that would ship for less than $50 per pound.
I remember seeing it at one point for $100 per pound.

Just like previous ammunition/component shortages, looks like we have bottomed and rebounding ... we just got delayed a bit.

Once inventory returns and STAYS "in stock", prices will fall next. Seen it several times during my 30 years of reloading.

I had pretty much stayed put with reloading supplies since mid 2020. But I had a knee jerk reaction when this Ukraine situation happened. I bought 2k of SRPs. Then I when my grandson starting getting supplies around for reloading, I realized I was on the slim side rifle powder. So now I'm keeping an eye out for that.

Seeing the same prices in Central Mississippi. Powder had been $32-38 a lb and $59.99-69.99 a brick on primers 6 months to a year ago.
Now $50-70 for powder. $100 and up for primers. Most of it is autonomous the shelf.

I bought BR-4 primers in store at $129.00 per thousand, they had 70 bricks available. I didn’t like the price but wanted those primers so I bought them.

Bought my first pound of powder in a few years a couple weeks ago and it was the first time I’d seen Ramshot Tac, they only had one pound, and it was 34.99. I wasn’t happy with the price, it with 2 new 223’s going for accuracy I figured I’d better get it while I could. Their ammo section was fairly well stocked and prices weren’t too bad at the local sportsman’s Warehouse. Actually they were well stocked on everything, almost like nothing was going on. AR mags 11-14 each, .22 ammo galore, AR build parts, reloading equipment isle was stuffed. It was nice to see again.

I started reloading about 6 months ago, because that's when my FIL gave me all of his extra toys. (Prior to that I was sure it was all alchemy and voodoo!) So I've never seen anything but shortage. Current prices, while high, are less than factory ammo, and don't bother me due to ignorance. I simply don't know any better!

The prospect of plentiful, affordable components is fantasy! I can only imagine! Wow! Walk into the local Cabelas and pay $60-$70 per 1000 Primers? Pick your recipe based on the powder attributes, not availability? I can hardly wait! Is it even possible?

Ahhh, the good old days. They will be back and hopefully kinda soon. Unfortunately you picked a crappy time to get into it, but if it helps, a year ago would have been worse. Hindsight is a getter, and nothing to do but look forward. Don’t get stuck in the “if only I had..... in the past” it only makes things worse. Focus on the here and now, the reality of it is what it is, and make the best of it as you can.

Many feel your pain as we were spoiled with low prices and stocked shelves for years and also many didn’t avail themselves of them and are now kicking themselves in the posterior for not heeding the advice of buying it cheap and stocking it deep. Lots of us did, but most did not. Then there are some who decided to try a new round that uses nothing they had stocked and have to start from scratch, and are in the same boat. It’s gradually complete no back to the shelves, and the prices in some areas are coming down some, so the light at the end of the tunnel is visible again, and this time I don’t think it’s a train.

If the prices were not absurd, the items wouldn’t be in stock because all the new people would stock up. Kind of like those of us who went through prior shortages have done for years. Buy when things are cheap and ride out the droughts.

I still have primers and powder acquired before Clinton signed the AWB, mags I still haven’t used since it sunset a decade later. There are others out there like myself and after this last one, when prices hit their bottom, there will be more that won’t want to be caught without components going forward.

You've got it made then. You're a step ahead of me, who just doesn't care and won't let $20 or $30 additional cost keep me from shooting. I'm afraid we're both light-years ahead of people who are waiting for the days of $30 bricks of primers and $20lbs of powder to be the norm again though.

I agree that if its ever going to happen, seeing stuff actually in stock at any price is a good sign.

2018-2020 for me was the time to buy cheap and stack deep. I learned my lesson during Obama.

Luckily I've not needed any powder and very few primers. Only primers I bought were large pistol for my wife's 44mag and my 10mm. My component supply is very well stocked won't need any for at least 5 years. My area LGS's that has powder and primers the powder is 49.99/lb and higher, and primers aren't sold in bricks only 100 packs at $8.99 and up. Ammo price is still a little high but they have it. And firearm price is unreal, well stocked but every gun I looked at yesterday was over MSRP.

The bigger chain stores ammo and gun prices are better and of course have very little stock. The big chains haven't had powder or primers in months.

I’ve noticed a similar trend in the “where are the reloading components” thread. Stuff is popping up more frequently and staying available longer. CCI 450s were in stock at Brownell’s this week for several hours.

The more this happens the less likely people will be in a panic to snatch it up
