Seen Alliant Powder at LGS. Ouch!

I stopped into a gun shop that's part of a chain of stores, mostly in Ohio.

They had several of Alliant powders on the shelf. Alliant seems usually to be the hardest to obtain in these droughts.

But the horror began when I realized the 1# bottles were priced at $50+. And some 5# jugs were over $200.

To compare, there was a 8 lb. jug of HP-38 priced at $214. And I ended up buying the last 1# of H335 for about $34 OTD.

I'm not accusing the LGs of gouging. I could imagine that they had to pay a premium to get that brand. But at over $15 difference per pound, I'll settle for the Hodgdon.

Has anyone seen similar price difference?
 
Searching online today I saw a vendor, Reloading Shop, showed they had every Alliant powder.

It was all around $49.00 a pound. I put some RL16, RL17, RL23 in my cart.

But before checkout, I wondered if they were legit, or if this was gonna be a back order after you already paid?

anyone do business with this company?
 
At the gun show a few weeks ago, a couple of vendors has 8# jugs of h110....for $495:fire: Alliant powders were in the $75/lb range. Hodgdon pistol powders in 1# containers were in the $50-$60 range. I'd like to get some more Bullseye...but not at that price. I still have a fair amount of CFE-P, Power Pistol or TG I can use.
 
I have not been reloading much since the insanity started but have plenty stocked up for just in case. In the meantime I have been focusing on rotating all my rimfire rifles and handguns...and am have such a great time doing it.
 
I would have to run the numbers on that price. I have bought my powder online the last few times. Throw in shipping and hazmat it was pricey even with doing my best to amortize the cost. I might actually be tempted. However, 40 vs 75 if there were other non Alliant options if data was available for my favorite calibers I might just go with something new. I have spent the last year working with Win244 for that reason. It was available and I don’t want to be dependent on any 1 company. Still a learning curve although some data is available as working up loads can burn the price savings quickly. One has to be creative if you want to buy it cheap and stack it deep these days.

Regarding Alliant powders, I'm flush with 2400, but I might begrudgingly cough up $200 for a 5# jug of Blue Dot if I ever came across it. o_O

HOL-EEE-SMOKES!!!! That's some serious coinage! I'm not one of them, "if I can't get it for a 1977 price, I don't want it," types but, seriously, for that kind of coin, it can sit.
 
I've been seeing Alliant powders a little more and more at my LGS (I'm in Ohio too and talking about Fin Feather Fur)

They seemed to be the brand most affected by the shortages of the past couple of years, at least around here.

I finally got most of the components together to start loading 7.62x39 and wanted to get another lb of Reloader 7, which they had (along with many of the other Reloader series powders) but I had too a hard time justifying the $53+tax/lb price tag.

They had IMR 4198 for $12 less per pound so that's what I brought home

My OP was for their store in Rossford. And they had Reloder 7 in the 5#. I use it for 300 Blk. But I will use 300-MP that I have until then.

I'm out east at their Boardman store but occasionally make it to Ashland.

It's nice to have other loads already worked up with a few different powders if your "regular" powder supply is disrupted.

I've always tried to have a variety of powders in the line-up for times like these.

I've been turned on to a few "new" (meaning new-to-me) powders by members here. Ramshot Competition, True Blue and (soon now) Silhouette, specifically. I already knew about Accurate 4100 but didn't know until I saw it here that it and Ramshot Enforcer were the same powder. Since I saw Enforcer for less $$ than 4100, and I only had 3 lbs of 4100 on-hand at the time, I got some Enforcer, loaded it using my 4100 data, and voila! A new-to-me powder for fewer buckaroos! :)

Ya'll are a pretty decent bunch of guys :cool: - for a band of hermits and curmudgeons. :)

My shop is down for inventory today so I get to stay home and talk to strangers on the internet.

I don't have any experience with Ramshot powder except for TAC which has become my favorite in .223/5.56.

I would love to get my hands on some True Blue and Sillouette but, so far nobody local carries it and I flat out refuse to pay extra fees to buy hazmat stuff online.

So far I've be able to get by (a friend was placing an online order that included some hazmat and gave me the opportunity to add to his, that's how I got 16lbs of TAC)

I don't suppose I'll be able to hold out forever and will eventually have to order True Blue online.

Fantastic powder with lots of applications, but, being an Alliant product, well....

Before that I was content to turn money into noise with good ol' standbys like 231, Unique, 2400 and 748.

Silhouette and true blue are almost twins. I like Silhouette better but I load single stage, if your progressive loading true blue is your huckleberry.
 
All I can tell ya is I was at the local Cabelas today and they had zilch, zero, no powder at all didn't even ask about primers, and to add insult to injury a box of 100 9mm WW whitebox was $39 + tax. :(

BE-86 is a good powder. Use it in .45 Auto and .45 Colt. Might give it a whirl in .357 also. Good stuff.
 
LGS had Varget for $40.00 lb. Our local auction has the bidding at $65-80 lb. LGS didn’t keep Varget in stock long.

I have only been to the Fins a few times this year. It's only been since Hodgdon acquired Western Powders that I have seen any there. And I the only pistol powder I have seen there is #2, #5, #7, and #9. So far I haven't seen any of the Ramshot line. That's not to say they haven't had it. Just not when I visited.
