i went shooting recently and decided to try a 147 gr 9mm load in 4 different pistols. i shot 15 rds on each target for the full size and 14 rds each for the compacts. left target is first magazine of each gun. target at 10 yrds, offhand. the circle of the target is 6 inches( don't know why label says 8 inches).

i brought:

canik rival darkside 5 inch barrel with fiberoptic front sight, great trigger, granulate talon grips

my old xdm 5.25 with powder river precision trigger , has a fiber optic front sight, granulate talon grips

cz PCR compact with TFX pro sights

CZ P10c with stock 3 dot sights, granulate talon grips

targets in no order:

let us call targets A, B, C, D from top to bottom. can you match the targets to the gun? try not to count 14 vs 15 holes

we all have good days and bad days but shooting the same load in 4 guns still yielded surprising results. I decided to use 120 rds over the 4 pistols to see how it performs and make sure it functions with the czs( i had shot the load out of my shadow 2 more as a function check and no malfunctions). i had preloaded the mags before shooting and shot the targets one after the other but i did pick up brass after a magazine or 2 so everything should be fairly the same.

I shot the canik, then the xdm, then the cz pcr and my p10c. the groups weren't that great but the relative groups was surprising.

I'm surprised the xdm didn't do better.
Not what I expected.
Did you do load development for another 9mm?
I find that if I load developed for one gun the other guns usually don't hate that load, it's at least better than factory ammo usually.

I have been raving over my canik as it feels great in the hand and has a great trigger. I have been dry firing it a bit and had shot 200 rds out of it a few weeks ago. When I dry fire it the sight doesn't move vs my old xdm 5.25 where the sight almost always jumps a little to the left as the striker spring releases. I haven't shot the xdm in probably a year as the grip tape needed to be replaced but this among my 9 mms had probably been shot the most. the cz pcr was probably last shot 6 months to a year ago and doesn't get shot much, the p10c had been shot several months ago. i do dry fire all of them every so often.

ha ha, maybe the canik really isn't that great for me. I had brought the xdm as it was similar (both full size and polymer). both also had fiberoptic sights which does make my shooting less precise with my astigmatism(even with glasses still flares). I had previously painted the fiberoptic in the xdm but removed it a couple of years ago.

the cz pcz has tfx pro sights and shot in DA/SA. stock trigger. I learned the shoot the dot sight picture works best for it. the sight contrasts with the black target.

the CZP10C has the regular 3 dot sights which doesn't contrast much with the target till you have more white in the targets.

the shooting may also have warmed up by the last 2 guns.

Maybe the czs just reallly shoot better for me.

I am sure each gun over a few more targets would have improved the groups but it was still an interesting result.

maybe there was also an element of half assery shooting with the 2 full size polymer pistols as it feels everything is all set with the nice sight picture and great trigger but the difference between the xdm and the canik is till interesting.

i usually just shoot the same load in different guns rather than developing a specific load for a particular gun. i had tested this load benched at 10 yrds ( no point in testing further for me since my vision would be more of a factor) with the canik and my cz shadow 2. even there, the shadow 2 shot much better but that was a more expensive gun. the xdm would be a more similar gun.

It would be interesting to see the results shooting in a different order.
Have you measured the groups? The Canik and PCR 2nd target groups appear similar in size.

My standard 147gr coated round nose load is 3.1gr of Titegroup loaded at 1.105ish. Runs in all the 9mm I've ever had and group sizes vary from one pistol to the next.

i haven't measured it edge to edge but there are 9 rds in the center around the 1st 2 rings of the target of the 2nd pcr target vs the shotgun pattern of the 2nd canik target.

i agree shooting it in a different order would change things a bit. shooting the canik over a couple more targets should result in decent groups. i am tempted to try dimming the fiberoptic sight with a sharpie.

I am looking at the groups as "A" zone or in the black groups. If you're scoring the PCR clearly has a better group.

A zone hits the full size canik and xdm is quicker of course even here where the black circle is about 3.75 inches.
