Hi everyone, flexible here. Been seeing ads for Lapua Scenar 69 gr in Rem223. I have a S&W M&P15, the barrel is marked 5.56 NATO 1/8 5R. Been shooting the standard 55 gr stuff and was wondering if the Lapua is a bit too heavy?
I have 2 friends with the same rifle and noticed Graf & Sons has this ammo in bulk.
We might want to buy some, does this make sense?
thanks

I've successfully used up to and including the 85.5gr Berger Hybrid in my 1:8s so it's definitely worth testing out. I would also try a couple of boxes before buying in bulk, because bullet design and speed matter as well as weight, especially so when pushing the edges. And barrels can vary in what they like. But 69grs shouldn't be pushing any edges for an 8 twist .223

I also have rifles with 1:8 twist and they like the heavier bullets just fine. I see so much of this 55 grain stuff on store shelves these days that I take a pass on because I keep scouting for some of the heavier stuff and snap it up when I find it.

I’ve loaded some 75gr stuff that stabilized just fine in a 1:8 twist barrel. I didn’t care for how deep I had to seat to fit in and AR mag but it shot well.

Those are nice uppers. I wish I had just bought the M&P with the 1:8. It was cheaper but I was holding out for something with a forward assist and dust cover. I wish I'd known how lil that would come to mean to me. I would have preferred the 1:8" M&P. They were on sale for like $400. Should shoot great with 62gr and 75gr but 69gr should be about the sweet spot for that carbine.....

Let me know if you ever want to trade that upper ;):D. Jk, but seriously.

Thanks everyone, I've also got 500 rounds of the Black Hills 77gr OTM but haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.
Can wait for 'play day' at the range.

Oh no, those won't work in your rifle AT ALL. Don't take the chance! I'll tell you what, I am willing to swap it out for you with some nice shiny 55 grain govt approved freedom seeds. Even Steven, because I am just that kinda guy.

Of course I am kidding. That's great ammo and should work fine in your setup. But I will still swap you.
