I built a 22-250 on a K98 receiver some years ago, the biggest problem I encountered was blocking the magazine for the shorter cartridge … if I were to build another I’d make it a full length cartridge like a 6.5x55.
Also, in the beginning the intension was to be an economy build … but in my new (15-18 years ago) copy of ShotGun News I came across some Parker Hale bolts & adjustable trigger, a nice upgrade. Then instead of using the original stock I found a Fagen stock I really liked … another upgrade. As time went on I decided on a Hart barrel …
Instead of buying the tools to headspace it I decided to have a smith do it as I already decided I wasn’t going to do this again.
In the end I had about $900 invested and for the same money could have bought a nicer Kimber 22-250 … but it was a great shooter and a fun project … even though the parts were much more expensive than the project was worth!
