Does Pietta make a 1851 Navy with a blue frame and not case hardened ? The reason I ask is Midway has one and their description was steel blue frame and wood grips . The picture doesn’t look case hardened . They have another advertised as hardened steel frame blue with polymer grips . The picture shows a nice case hardened frame . They also give a manufacturer number , but it doesn’t match any number that I searched from Pietta .

At Midway’s site , I searched Pietta 1851 Navy . The product number is 454943 . Manufacturers number FR1851236 . $279.99

It looks case hardened in the image.
It doesn't say "steel blue frame"
it says "Pietta 1851 Navy Black Powder Revolver 36 Caliber 7.5" Barrel Steel Frame Blue"
Not super clear, but I'd assume the following are individual descriptors in general -
Pietta 1851 Navy
Black Powder Revolver
36 Caliber
7.5" Barrel
Steel Frame
Blue

Not sure of the actual procedure, but Pietta is not performing a true case hardening procedure, it is a finish.
But they are hard, and have pretty colors.

None of them are actually case hardened. The CCH is an acid wash.
That is the look that I am looking for . The one I mentioned didn’t have that look . Other Pietta!s list color case hardened frame , this one does not .

Look at the one pictured above #170038 , It is the model with polymer grips . I can really see the case color and it mentions it in the description . Maybe it is a bad picture, but they don’t look the same color and it doesn’t mention CCH anywhere in the description like most of the descriptions do in the model I first referred to with the walnut grip .

Yes # 170038 has the colors more apparent in the photo, but 454943 definitely has the faux color case hardened frame finish as well just not as good of a photo to showcase them.

Why not call them and ask?
I couldn’t find a number for Pietta only email . I figured Midway’s customer service phone help couldn’t tell me anymore than I could read from their description . I also searched the manufacturer’s number Midway list in a search on Pietta’s website with no matches . That’s when I asked here .

They aren't all the same color. Many variations in coloration, pattern, etc. on the "case hardened" frames. But both images definitely have Pietta's case hardened frames, as do all of Pietta's Colt cap and ball steel-framed models to my knowledge that have blued barrels and cylinders. they have "old silver" finish, which looks like stainless, and "Old West" finishes which is a standard finish that has been artificially aged/weathered. But as far as I know Pietta doesn't offer any cap and ball colts with blued steel frames (other than the Paterson, which has been out of production for quite a while).

If you want a Pietta cap and ball revolver with a blued steel frame, try a Remington New Model Army.

Or a Rogers & Spencer.

I would call Midway Sales, tell them you are interested in buying one, you are confused by the online description and ask them to open one up and look!

I have a Uberti Remington New Army and I thought all of the Pietta’s were color case hardened . The one In that picture sure doesn’t look very good from others that I have seen .

But the frame is still "color case hardened."
That is what I am looking for , a color case harden frame , I am not looking for the London model . I would be disappointed if it looked like that picture I referenced .
