Good Riddance to Dick's

The store here has no guns or ammo, terrible service, and even more worse prices.

Dunham's beats them by over 80 percent in kids softball gear. It was remarkable (and also sells guns and ammo). Dunham's is about ten minutes away, Bass pro shop is another ten minutes.

I'll never darken their doorstep. Last time I was in there a few years ago the prices were absolutely nuts, and every two steps had some kind of Marxist BLM propaganda (even plastered all over the walls in the bathroom, couldn't even escape at the urinal).

Couldn't hustle out fast enough. I have no idea how they are doing well, I really don't..I can't think of a worse sporting goods store as far as service and prices.

They probably didn't feel losing the guns and ammo, their selection was always pretty lame and weak even compared to Walmart, arguably the reigning title champ of lame and weak guns/ammo( and I'm sure they'll abandon their remaining 22s and 12 gauges any day).

I know it's convenient to grab a box of range ammo in addition to your new socks or putter or whatever, but it's best to stick to local gun stores or companies with a vested interest in our shooting sports and self defense traditions enshrined in the 2nd.

Bass pro was rounding up to the NRA the other day, I know that organization has it's issues but I like it better than being asked to round up to #metoo or something.

Yes, but it's more bizarre when it's traditional sporting good stores that sold firearms and hunting supplies for decades.. It's not like they were a beverage company.
Not really. They're playing the politically correct game. Target used to sell ammo. I still have a few boxes of ammo with the now "traditional" Target price tags.

I live in a blue state and a county that has historically shifted between red and blue, but has been blue since the Obama years. Demographics have changed a lot. There are more dicks and less guns.

^^^ I need to revise this. There are more guns, but they're acquired unlawfully by black gangs through a thriving underground illegal gun market. violent crime has gone up exponentially here. Statistically the reason for the uptick in violent crime is primarily black-on-black crime with stolen guns. It peaked during the height of the pandemic, which was predictable, but no one in government or news media predicted it. I predicted it, but I don't have the microphone or a viewership.

And yet, I’m still correct. It’s far more bizarre and a departure from a company’s roots and industry to go from a sporting goods store that sells guns and hunting supplies to anti gun, than let’s say a shoe or lawnmower company virtue signaling against guns. Obviously true. One is a departure in business model and ending a lot of existing customers and products, the latter examples are not. However, all can be politically correct virtue signaling

The article linked to another article that said a bunch of downtown Montgomery stores have closed recently. I stopped in Montgomery a few months ago to try to get some food at a Popeye's. There were a bunch of lard-a$$es sitting in there, too lazy to even get up and take our order. We stood there for a few minutes and finally left. If that's the quality of labor force that Dick's had to work with in Montgomery, AL, maybe they gave up.

You can hope all you want but Dick's is doing great, financially. All of our boycotting has done little permanent harm to the business overall.

If the store in Montgomery, AL is being highlighted...

"Montgomery's rate of children living in poverty is higher than the state's rate of 26%. In Montgomery, 32.1% of children live in poverty. The median household income decreased in Montgomery, falling from $48,706 in 2007 to $45,833 in 2017."

Pulled that randomly off Google.

That was from 2019.

Maybe Montgomery, AL is not a good place for business?

I’m guilty of buying from them like 3-4 years ago. Was in Portland, black Friday, no tax… They had .444 Marlin for $9 a box, yellow and green box. Bought it all!

Sorry for my moment of weakness
This shall count as your Act of Contrition. 10 Our Father and 10 Hail Mary, you are absolved of your sin...

It was the answer to a "Jeopardy" question tonight, though (capital of the Confederate States) and it's a great place if you love high school and college football...

On topic, my local Dick's also has a very limited selection of ammunition now, but what it has, is insanely priced. The sportswear and equipment is at least 20% higher than the other big box sporting goods stores. I cruise through on my way into my local mall, rarely see a sole customer inside -- honestly, don't know how it's still in business.

Well I feel sorry for the 100 or so people that work there. They just need a pay check.

I personally don't do Dick's, I actually like females......funny yea I know.....but I detest stick and ball games, I enjoy sport, but there is a big difference between sports and games.

Hope the folk find new jobs.

Maybe they'll bankrupt themselves from paying travel costs for all those employees to travel out of state to obtain abortions. Eff Dick's.

The news story is about the Dicks in Montgomery, AL along Hwy 85. I have been there twice. They sell no guns or ammo. I have been to one other Dicks in AL, they do not sell any shooting goods either.

The one off of 280 in Birmingham (the plaza where Dick’s and Hooters used to both be) used to sell firearms. I last went in pre-Sandyhook and picked up a left handed 17 HMR. They’ve since relocated to Doug Baker Blvd and I don’t know what they have in there but I think they’ll remain viable since they cater to a large golfing community.

Please don't think me a traitor but I have to shop at Dicks once a year. One of my Daughter-in-laws likes their line of running and workout clothing and we buy Her a gift certificate there for Christmas. Oh yeah, She looks good in them too!

You can't boycott every business that has different beliefs that yours. Theres just too many of them.

When Dick's went to remove gun sales, folks were all about boycotts and telling the management that they won't shop there. So I asked an economist friend who pulled up that their profits have increased pretty well over the last few years. Oh, well.

We try to. Target is a No Go, though Wif goes in, maybe once a year.
McD is an absolute NoWay in H***! Same as Dick's.
Nike is another.
STARPUKE!
Wally is our only choice, for certain items.

After they virtue signaled with AR's one would think gun owners might not shop there on principle, but noooo.
1 thing you n 5-6 years, sorry man, it was 20rd boxes of .444 Marlin for $9 each out the door.

already did my Heil Mary and @Old Dog forgave me.

bought 8 boxes!!! lol

I was the unfortunate recipient of a Dick's gift card for Xmas from the in-laws last year. I would have traded at 50% value for about any other company's card but ultimately spent it at Field and Stream. They're owned by Dick's and honored the gift card, which was used to buy a 10 pack of LNL bushings and some 22 ammo for the kid. Since they already had the money, it didn't feel as bad.

Gun owners are the worst boycotters . Heck I even know some that vote Democrat .
I Think Gun Owners are the most diverse group out there. During the CHaz/CHop defund police of Sumer of 2020 my moderate friend has a restaurant across the street from the encampment. Well he was scared because every window was broken and spray painted. He wanted a AR, but since he didn’t know how to use a gun. I talked him into a G2C and taught him about avoidance, and not upsetting the Mob, and situation awareness. So we plastered his restaurant with BLM stickers. And he didn’t have any issues that would destroy his livelihood.

Fast forward to now, Gun is in his closet, and he could careless about gun rights. That goes the same with 10’s of thousands of new gun owners that year here in Seattle. So my point is Gun Owners are a very diverse group. And that’s a great thing!
