Modern replacements for .50BMG for military anti-material purposes?

Hi guys, i know that modern alternatives exist to the .50BMG and 12.7x108 for long range sniping such as 300prc, 338 norma magma, 375, 408, 416 etc. What i'm wondering if anyone has made any modern replacements for the .50BMG and 12.7x108 for military purposes e.g penetrating armoured vehicles, block walls etc?

I tried googling but i couldn't find anything.
 
Most people compare apples to oranges when it comes to 50 BMG and long range.

50's were always designed to send rounds down range. Modern designs had to catch up.

Long range precision shooting was an adaptive role that came later for .50 BMG and other 12.7 mm platforms, it's original design (it's right in the name in fact) was to put a lot of steel down range fast. There are other calibers that are as equally or more effective in the "sniper" role. There isn't anything out there as effective in the anti-material/personnel/light armor arena from a crew serve or vehicle mounted machine gun until you step up to much bigger guns, and they are "too" big for the role the .50 plays. The .50 BMG has a unique niche, and pretty much rules it's arena...why the US Military is still using it 100 years later.
 
SIG has A/M rifles in 20mm and 25mm bores, but they are evil beasts near 2m long and running to 12-15kg empty.
Are they "better" is a subjective question.
As will be your intel on enemy materiel at 1km to 1.5km distances that cannot be suppressed by other means.

If you are needing to get your Special Forces teams that engaged, giving them laser designators and letting terminal guided weapons do the rest. A JDAM or a 250kg LGB is even more effective than a single 20mm round.

Mind, if you can get the SF penetrated in deep enough, a 155mm Excalibur round will reach to 40km (25 miles). That's a 22kg of HE you can shoot into a 1m CEP circle. (MOA at 25 miles is about 4100 feet.)
 
50 Beowulf was designed for light anti-material roles and to fit in an AR15. Mainly for checkpoints and the like. In trials it penetrated engine blocks and disabled the vehicle. It will not do much on armored vehicles though. Just not enough power since it has to fit in an AR15. Its quite a thumper regardless.

50 BMG never was a "sniper" round. It works okay because it has a long range and a heavy bullet. It was always suited better to anti-material. It has a big enough projectile to be able to be tailored to a multitude of applications: i.e. ball M2, AP, APIT, HEI etc.

was hoping they would make a .60 cal or a .70 cal!!!

my Ruger #1 is not light, but it kicks like a low rider with hydraulics. Yes, tight to the shoulder leaning forward
 
I would like to take that Anzio 20mm out to the desert. There are places where you could easily shoot 2+ miles.

1.00 inch = 25.4 mm

0.60" = 15.24 mm
0.70" = 17.78 mm
20 mm = 0.787"
25mm = 0.984"

Sometimes guns don't use an exact figure, so take it for what it's worth... but those are the basic conversions between inches (caliber) and millimeters. I noticed the 25mm was obviously off, as it's less than an inch. It looks like you just did that conversion backwards. The others are fine, just rounded.

I can't even imagine how fat a barrel would be for a chamber that large.... do you crane it to the bench or is it a two man carry.

that Fatmac takes Short Magnum to a whole new level. How many round before your barrel throat is gone! 2-3? lol
