Ah, auction. Outside of auction, i've never seen one new below about $425. In most LGS they are going for $500.

Yeah, I didn't make that clear. That isn't a one-off, though. If I didn't win that auction there were 1 or 2 more from the same seller ending soon. Looking through completed auctions I found one that went for $340 and another one under $360.
Either way, you shopped victoriously.

I'm the same way, I have two Shields and a G17. I am not anti-Glock at all, I like my G17 but the trigger feels like a knife through sponge cake. To me, stock Glock triggers
are just a spongy mess. And as far as size, I find carrying the Shields to be more comfortable than any Glock, the Glocks are so thick in comparison. I'm sure I could make do with a subcompact Glock but the Shields work fine for me so I'm happy,

My 3.1" Shield Plus PC and 4" Shield Plus PC have become my two fulltime carry guns.
I find the trigger on these two Performance Center Shield Plus models to be the best factory striker fired trigger I have ever felt. On the S&W website, they claim the Perf Center models have a tuned trigger. So, I am not sure how much different they are to the standard Shield Plus model. Plus, I Love the triggers on the two I have.
I can shoot my 3.1" model as well as my Glock 19 and HK P2000. And, I can shoot my 4" model as well as I can my Beretta M9A3. I REALLY am impressed with the accuracy and feel of the 4" model.

Considering the standard Shield Plus trigger is quite good, I can imagine the PF version is amazing.
I fired today 50 more rounds, making I think 430 rounds out of my Shield Plus.
Zero failures or issues so far. I think it's passed the break in/new gun tests. Today I finally did some holstered draw and fire drills.

I found out today that in North Carolina, my Son just needs to get a purchase permit, and give it to me and he can accept the gen 1 Shield.
Then I have to keep the purchase permit for the rest of my life.

I'm out of state on a 5-day business trip. I haven't kept real close track of how many rounds are through my Shield+, a few hundred, I'd guess. Still, it's done well enough that I brought it on this trip as my CC pistol. In fact, it's the only firearm I brought.

Congrats, and glad you're having a good time with it!
It should NOT be surprising when a new pistol runs without a hickup. There's plenty of good advice on cleaning, and otherwise readying a pistol for that initial use period of time.
Interestingly enough, the tendency of new or long time owners seems to be posting if they experience a hickup (or want help) and NEVER posting otherwise.
This thread brought many out of the woodwork, yeah!

I agree that we should be able to expect a reliable, modern handgun. But as we all have experienced, that's not always the case. Some makes and models appear to be more consistently reliable out of the box. S&W Shields are one line that is. But, I also like my shields too

Yeah, they are good guns. At this point, both of us have fired a bunch of shields, enough to know they usually work well. I still think it's a good idea to put a few hundred rounds through a new gun to make sure it's not an outlier, but it sounds like you did that.
I brought my Shield+ with me to Philadelphia this summer for a trip.
Thanks. Interestingly, my Shield 1.0 was 100% reliable right out of the box. My Shield .45 has intermittent feeding problems that I've never quite been able to eliminate. Very low frequency, maybe 1-2%, and possibly shooter error, in all fairness. Still, it's just enough to give me pause when I think about CCing it. Finally, my Shield+ had a small handful of malfunctions within the first 100, maybe 150 rounds. A failure to feed here, a failure to eject there, but nothing major. Whatever it was seems to have been resolved, though. It runs like clockwork now. Maybe some small burr in there somewhere needed to be worn off. Who knows?
