Or a politician skating on plausible deniability. We will never get the straight story, and if it was staff originated, the "appropriate actions" will be a high five and innocuous file entry.

So does WA and OR. I know, it's comes as a shock to most who live in the fly over states. Rule of thumb. Don't worry what congress is doing, worry about what your state legislature is doing.

My memory is fuzzy on this but wasn't there a big push a number of years ago to sift through all the good cause statements on applications to find inconsistencies/discrepancies regarding issuance (i.e. someone denied a permit whose claimed good cause was similar to another whose was accepted)?

Regardless, that info was heavily redacted iirc. But the point is, there is no absolute privacy.

As for this being intentional, the cynic in me can accept that. However, it would also mean the CADOJ/the AG were willing to allow quite a bit of collateral damage from the leaked info, by way of
including the names of judges, prosecutors, etc

Yeah, that's going to be a problem for a lot of people. Not because they carry but because so much of their personal information was doxed. Bad times for some of those folks and their families. The law suits will be endless unless the state pays everyone on that list a very large sum of money to sign a hold harmless agreement. That could easily be a billion dollars. If you live in CA and you get your 300K settlement that might be a good time to rent a U-Haul van.

The Attorney General has announced that his office released the personal information of Californians who were granted or denied a concealed and carry weapons (CCW) permit between 2011-2021, and that information may have been released for those who have records in the Assault Weapon Registry, Handguns Certified for Sale, Dealer Record of Sale, Firearm Certification System, or Gun Violence Restraining Order databases.

DLG has already sent the Attorney General’s office a letter notifying it to immediately preserve all relevant evidence about the leak.

The National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) filed a lawsuit against California on Wednesday challenging a law that allows the state to disclose sensitive personal information about law-abiding gun owners to universities and any “bona fide research institute.”

“California must be held accountable for its near-constant, unconstitutional assaults on law-abiding gun owners and the Second Amendment,” said Jason Ouimet, executive director, NRA-ILA. “This law strips privacy rights from anyone who has ever purchased a firearm, transferred a firearm, purchased ammunition, or obtained a concealed-carry license. This is an outright violation of our rights and must be reversed."

The bill, Assembly Bill 173, allows for the disclosure of highly sensitive information, including a gun owner’s name, address, place of birth, phone number, occupation, driver’s license or ID number, race, sex, height, weight, hair color, eye color, and even their social security number and types of firearms that they own. This information was gathered from law-abiding gun owners with the understanding that it would only be used for legitimate law enforcement purposes.

“This information is a person’s identity. And it’s being handed over to organizations that have no duty to safeguard it. This will do nothing to prevent crime — it will only serve to put law-abiding gun owners at risk,” Ouimet said. “Gun owners are entitled to the same privacy rights as all law-abiding citizens. They should not be ‘doxxed’ for exercising their rights.”​

Lifetime Californian here. No payouts. No reckoning or accountability for Bonta or Gav Boy. Not happening. My local Sheriff was named on the cover as a plantiff of the 9th Circuit ruling that closing all of the county's gun stores during the plague was UNCONSTITUTIONAL. No prosecution, no fines, no nothing. And that was ruled by the 9th. It's just a document sitting in a file. Nobody will prosecute the state here.

This is California. Politicians don't get anything but praise and accolades for harassing law abiding gun owners here.

This should be the major takeaway from all this for those of you who live in (still) free states. And it cannot be emphasized enough.

When I moved here, WA -- from CA -- this state was arguably in the top five states for best gun laws (for gun-owners and RKBA) or lack of, in the whole country. In a little over 30 years, we are zooming down to the bottom five states. We now have a waiting period for semiauto long guns and all handguns, background checks (which have killed private sales pretty much) which can - and often do - exceed the mandated 10 business-day waiting period, a magazine capacity limit (10 rounds), a red flag law, a back-up on issuance of CPLs (and renewals) often taking more than the required-by-law 30 days, more restrictions on concealed carry, concealed carry and open carry banned in the Capitol, a governor, AG and legislature that have all stated the goal of doing away with state preemption of gun laws and passing a total "assault weapons" ban -- which will include such items as the 10/22 along with every other semi-auto long gun AND a bunch of pistols as well.

You've got blue, and getting bluer, urban areas in states such as Arizona, Texas, Idaho... It's gonna catch up. We didn't think it could happen here, but it took only a little over twenty years to turn the political culture completely around. Oregon is going quickly as well.

The California Cancer has infected Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Arizona, Texas, Colorado, seems to be getting a foothold in Tennessee, even has a good foothold in Idaho. Basically, anywhere that has a mass exodus of Californians is going to fall, exactly like Cancer cells, their ideology mutates and multiplies. As the saying goes, you can't fight demographics. Older White Conservatives are dying out in Texas, replaced by young Latinos, most of whom, inexplicably vote Democrat, even though they were raised by conservatives. It's simple numbers, the same as it's been in California for the past 30 years. Plenty of us Californians share the values of America, life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness and true freedom. Unfortunately we are massively outnumbered here which is why California is now enemy territory where freedom went to die. There are just a few million of us in this state, outnumbered by roughly 37 million Commies. And those Commies who can't afford it here are moving to your state to infect it. It's sad. And God forbid if they somehow cheat Gav Boy into the Whitehouse, it's game over for America.

Unfortunately, our enemies have stacked the deck. If we are fortunate enough to lose the Potato, who becomes President? And if she was deposed, who then? In California, if the Newsom recall was successful, the Lt. Governor is the same or possibly even worse since was a campaigner for Hillary's run. Any State Senator, Assemblyman in the State of California, if they were removed, they have endless streams of more of the same, its political Whack-A-Mole.

Putting it simply, as evidenced by their results, tyrants are better strategists and tacticians than people who love freedom and just want to live their lives in peace.

For Medical Cancer, yes. For the California Cancer (mass exodus of even well-meaning pro 2A Californians invading a particular state or area and the laws of unintended consequences decimating the real estate market, economy and job market like in Boise?) I don't think a cure exists. Not even mentioning the card carrying California Leftists who already fled, then politically and societally destroyed Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Arizona and Nevada are going,Texas is going. My list of possible states to settle in for my last chapter is rapidly narrowing. I want to move where no Californians are moving to.
 
I always tell people that I don't care for that are moving out of CA to do this when they get to their new state:

1) Tell everyone that you're from CA and how great the politics are.

2) Drive around with your CA license plates on for as long as possible.

3) Tell people "that's not the way we did it in CA"!

4) Drive like you still live in CA.

5) Let people know that "guns are bad, mmmkay"!

Democrats only have to pander to the big city Dems, they know that's who will keep them in power.
