Not initially, no. The first gen Smiths, 39 single stack, 59 double stack, were only 9mm. Second gen introduced the .45 and the third gen brought in the .40 and 10mm. This chart will help sort out the mess..

The 39 was the first 9mm auto adopted by any law enforcement organization, Illinois State Police. There was even a special ISP load, which Federal still makes and is a dandy, 9BPLE, a 115g +P+..

I currently lack a second gen. I have a 4506 and a 5906 to fill the third gen spots.

I need that in my life!!

I can never find a 2nd gen, ever. LGS has a mess of 5906s and 6906s, and a 4506 or something, but no darn 2nd gens.

I actually got my 5906 from him and a decent price. But I want a 2nd!!

that’s the best information I got all week! NICE

Gen 2 did make a .45 ACP! bet that comes at a premium price

*editted, Looks like one can expect to pay $1k or so. The ones you pay real money for are those lovely model 52s and 952s like bc1023 posted above and has me just messing myself.

Took the 39-2 and the 5906 out to the range. The wife was totally impressed by the 39-2 and couldn’t put it down. And the difference between it’s trigger and it’s grandson is very noticeable. The SA on the 5906 is good, the 39-2 is just better
