The pricey Glock

Suggested retail price for a Glock G17, in early '87, was $443.65. I paid way less than that for my gun back in '86. Nowadays I think a Gen.1, in excellent to mint condition, with all the "goodies"(like the manual, all the other paperwork, cleaning rod and brush, fixed rear sight, and the original plastic case) start at around $1K and go up from there.

I have one of the first Gen Glock 17’s as well. Its been fired quite a bit so there is no super-duper collector value like an unfired specimen may have.

I still have the box at home but the gun is with my Dad (He wanted it for a fishing sidearm up in the Sierras.)

Stay safe.

Inflation 1986-2022 puffs up the dollar to about $2.70, according to an online calculator. The '87 MSRP of 443.65 runs to 1,157. At 2,750 the implied "collector premium" in this case is what, roughly 1500? I don't know the collector view of these pistols, but personally I don't see it. I suppose comparing Gaston Glock to JM Browning might be a consideration, but I can't make that leap unless he was already in the ground and this was his personal carry gun ;)

Seems quite a bit over the going rate.

But if you think that’s lofty for a Glock, wait until you see what a Gen 1 G19 goes for.

With only a very small handful of 19. 1's ever made, it's not quite a fair comparison.

I’m not really comparing them so much as simply noting that far more expensive Glocks exist. A lot of people express bafflement that there’s such a thing as a collectible Glock at all, even in the $1,500 to $2,500 range. Imagine their surprise upon learning there are Glocks that easily command five figures these days. Not at all disputing that there’s a good reason for the price difference.

if I had the money, I would pay over $1,000 for a gen 1 Glock

I’m a pretty dedicated Glock shooter but I would have a hard time paying that much for a Glock…

On a side note, I thought you were a “trophy husband”? You should be rolling in the dough….

Are you a major league trophy or a “little league participation trophy” husband? LOL!

Ok, so, the ones for $2749.99 in the Original post aren't new either. They are used as used can be. You may want to rethink the value of your G17.
If your like me you still have the plastic case and giblets.
