I stayed in oklahoma City and in the Cherokee reservation in Oklahoma for a few months.
It's definitely different then being here in the Smokey mountains/ blue ridge mountains of NC.

Oklahoma is a beautiful place and I wouldn't mind living there. So long as I had some land and a storm shelter

I prefer Schuetzen over Goex.

edit, regular Goex that is. Olde Eynsford is probably my favorite but I'm afraid we'll never see that again. Swiss is the only one that compares to Olde Eynsford.

I cut my teeth on Goex when I first started shooting Cap & Ball in 1968. Notice the price on the can on the right, I bought it from a friend a few years ago, and he bought it back goodness knows when.

I used to buy Goex for $5.95/lb. at Dixon's Muzzleloading Shop in the early 1990s.

I used to shoot Old E before switching to Swiss. Word I have is the Goex brand will be back for domestic use in all grades about mid March 2023. They are currently filling gov contracts at the moment.

Going down the rabbit hole here but all the talk about black powder got me thinking about powder requirements in the part. I calculated just to fire 1 broadside(27 cannons 1812 armament) would use about 175lbs of powder. 350 lbs to fire all the guns once. The black powder requirements for use today are a tiny fraction of what they were 100-200 years ago and yet somehow they got it made.

When they were blasting tunnels through the Sierra Nevada's in the 1850's for the trans continental railway, they averaged 500 barrels (weighing 100 lbs each) per day. I can't imagine the logistics of getting it there.

Boy, did this ever bring back memories! My first pound of "store bought" powder was back in 1963 or 1964. Needed a note from my mother since I was a young adolescent at the time. The owner of the local gun shop sold me a pound of DuPont 2fg for the grand sum of $2.50, plus tax. He told me the next time I needed powder to bring back the empty can (along with another note) and he would refill it for $2.00, which he did using a 4-ounce volumetric measure to scoop the powder from what appeared to me a HUGE DuPont keg. Can't remember how many times I had that can refilled but I wish I had saved it... .

Trouble with those cheap powders back in the day, was that wages was cheap back in the day. I think minimum wage was $1.65 on one of my first jobs, washing dishes in a Hotel. But me and three other guys rented a house for $100 a month, and did okay.
