Second favorite battle or assault rifle after the AR15 or AK47?

M1 first then 03a3. I want to reach out well before they get within 200 yds.
If they close either delivers a devastating horizontal or vertical butt stroke. Then there’s also the sticky thing on the end. As and old (let me tell you about what it was really like at Tun Ta earn) jarhead 0311 I’m still more than passably competent with these systems

Not quite a rifle, but the M1 Carbine. Light recoil, nice sights, very light gun, what's not to love? I guess some would say that it's underpowered, but I think that's blown out of proportion a bit. The thing is a dream to shoot.

Alternatively, the Advanced Armament Corporation Honey Badger. Again, not exactly a rifle, but close enough. I have no personal experience with it, but I do with a .300 Blackout pistol. I see no reason why, with the exception of the suppressor, that they'd be any different. I'm getting conflicting results when I look up if the Honey Badger was ever actually used in "battles", so it may not technically qualify.

I like the Vz58 over my AKs, even though I have 5 AKs & 1 Vz58. It shoots smoother than my SAM7-R, Milled MAK-90, and way lighter. My AR is my 3rd favorite platform, they are nice, but prefer the com bloc iron. To each his own, all good rifles mentioned in this thread:)

I've got two Vz.58's and no AK. Never did. I have a single AR15 just to have one because all the cool kids are doing it. Peer pressure.

I'm thinking of buying a 5.56 Vz.58 because I like the design so much.

All ways wanted either a 762 or 556 in the compact pistol to SBR, with the old metal folder!!

Been thinking about this question since the thread started, and it's a toss up between the fal and a vz58. Haven't had a chance to play with a tavor or a galil, or an aug. Didn't like the feel of the SCAR I played with, and although I love them, I don't think an m1 would be second pick for me either. I guess I'll pick fal as long as it's from Steyr.

I am interpreting "battle rifle" as anything that shoots a caliber other than the .223/5.56 and is semi-auto. I'll leave out the 6.5 GR, 6.8 SPC, 7.62x39, etc...
I like my .450 Bushmasters quite a lot, but for sheer knockdown power I have a couple large frame ARs in .308 that are superbly accurate, easy handling and will knock down a hog or other adversary DRT. Same goes for the .338 Fed though its barrel is much heavier.
If not constrained to semi-auto then I have a Savage 110 with 16" heavy barrel in a short and light MDT chassis with an Ultradyne Pulse brake that shoots like a pussycat but hits like a bolt of lightning and is very, very, very accurate out to 800+ yards.

If you're an AR guy or an AK guy, then your favorite is probably an easy answer. So...what's your second favorite then?

Wouldn’t that be third choice? :)

I don’t think all that like one, hate the other.

If I had to pick one over those two, the M39 would be an easy one.

I just meant sort of shoddy construction on the C308. I like the way they handle. I even put a set of actual CETME surplus wood furniture on it.

Glad you like the handling. !!! Kind of a "clumsy" gun for me. That's funny, I picked up a wood furniture set and replaced the plastic fantastic stock on mine too. Awkward handling gun for me, but it sure looks nice with the wood. It's a bitchen looking rifle for sure. I figure it's my "fixed position" gun for when the looters or Chinese or Aliens or starving neighbors attack my house. If I need to venture out, and take the fight to "them", like the Josey Wales would do, it won't be the CETME.
