I’m getting prepped to start reloading 10MM (and .40 S&W), but primarily looking for 10MM powder for 180-200 grain FMJ and XTP’s for hotter loads (1100-1200 FPS)

I’m looking for favorites. Leaning towards VV 3N37 as that is available to me locally, but only in 4 lbs bottle. I currently have N320 and N340 on hand.

Probably won’t be loading a lot, so don’t really want to go with the larger bottle. Guess I can order it….

I can buy Power Pistol and 2400 locally. There were other options, no 800X

Prefer clean burning powders when possible. Thanks!

I've recently loaded some 10mm with Hs6, Longshot, and AA9.
For a max load with those bullets, I'm probably going with AA9 or Longshot. But I've been happy with my mid range Hs-6 loads with 180gr sj and hp. Its a side benefit that I use Hs-6 for 9mm also, so I have a lot of it and don't have to clean my powder drop when I switch between the two.

In my 10mms
Best accuracy: Blue Dot (haven't seen any in over 2 1/2 yrs)
Highest velocity (so far): Longshot, AA#9 is runner up
Still in testing: 2400 (looks promising)
For accurate FBI loads: Universal and HP38/W231
My preferred 40S&W powders: Universal and HP38/W231

I've never used any VV powders.

Blue Dot and 10mm seem to have quite a good reputation but, as was pointed out, can be hard to come by lately (I can find it in my AO but my area seems to be the exception)

I have used a lot of Power Pistol and an very satisfied with it.
Not on the cutting edge of performance like #9, Longshot or 800x (I thought i heard 800x has been discontinued) but a nice metering powder with good performance.

BE-86 looks like it will turn in good (Power Pistol type) numbers with the added benefit of reduced flash, if that is important to you.

Otherwise, if you're after run-of-the-mill target/plinker ammunition, the 10mm is a reloaders dream, with load data for nearly every pistol powder available.

When CZ announced plans to build a 10mm, I sat down and did a test of several popular 10mm powders for accuracy and recoil. That test started with 165gr but ended up pointing to 180gr and BE-86... with N340 coming in a close second. All testing was done on my range with RMR bullets and Winchester primers in new StarLine brass.

Powders tested were:
W231, WSF, N340, HS-6, Silhouette, No.9, No.7, CFE Pistol, 4656, and BE-86. (Basically, all the slower pistol powders I had on hand)

Incidentally, powders you hear frequently associated and touted for 10mm, CFE Pistol and Blue Dot, ended up WAY down the list. They were mediocre at best.

It was a lot of shooting and a test I don't wish to ever repeat.

The Longshot recipes that are indelibly written into my mind are 10gr for a 125gr HAP in 9x25mm Dillon, and 8gr for a 200gr something in 10mm Auto to achieve the full 1200fps Norma boom in the latter!

And yes, the Glock is said to be rated for it!

Proceed with caution nevertheless!!! :D

I’ve used 800X and 180’s for years along with AA#9 and 200’s. 800X is no longer on the market so I’m gonna give Longshot a little more work on full power 180’s.

For range ammo 8.2 grains of Longshot under 180 XTreme or Berry’s bullets perform extremely in my G20, XDM Elite 3.8, S&W 2.0 and Hi-Point carbine.

Have never tried VV in 10MM.

Thanks for the recommendations! I think I saw Longshot, will have to recheck.

Based on the VV data, N340 with 7.1 grains under a 180 XTP will get 1165 FPS. Of course, mileage may/will vary.

I will be shooting with a 4.5” XDm.

Just left Bass Pro in San Antonio. They had some Sig 10MM and I bought a box of 20 JHP that claim 1250 FPS. Their FMJ range ammo (180 FMJ) also claimed 1250 FPS, but at almost $48/50, not worth buying IMO. Did pick up a set of Hornady 10MM dies

I've been using BE-86 with RMRs 180gr FMJ and a 180gr XTP.

Max loads from Alliant gave 1218fps with the RMR 180gr FMJ from a stock 4.6" G20, and 1240fps with the 180gr XTP from a 5.0" KKM barrel. I can post up my chrono data if you guys really want it, but BE-86 seems to give fairly tight numbers in my experience so far (also with .357 Sig).

I assume Power Pistol will get them going slightly faster, and with a little more flash.

Edited to add: I typically end up standing 12-15' away from my chronograph, which does reduces the velocities a little. Just not enough to matter to me.
