Just spent the weekend at the Texas Chrome Hero's Foundation Cook Off at the Lost Lagoon RV Resort in El Campo TX.
They invited me to come out because I built an AR 15 for them to auction off.
I used the Let’s Go Brandon lower from PSA to build the rifle.
We figured that the rifle would go for $1200 to $2000.

The first bid was $1000. Within a couple of minutes it was up to $5000. The bidding ended at $8000. I was amazed.
The Cook Off was great, with 52 teams competing.
My Brother in law took 1st place in Brisket and the Texas Chrome Hero’s Foundation took Grand Champions.
It was an outstanding weekend.

Elle also enjoyed the weekend. She hung out at the pool yesterday.

Being around the other veterans and those that support them was great. One of the Texas Chrome Hero’s cooks/ coaches, Chris Davis, is a veteran that the Foundation helped a few years ago. He told me that his life was on a path that was heading in a bad direction. But learning to BBQ and help other veterans put him on a better path.
Chris is the big ugly guy holding the trophy over his head. He holds several awards in BBQ cook offs.

Post#11 pic same as others, imagine making all those beef eaters mad & charging you! LoL Gentle giants...until stirred:what:

Reminded me of a new partner in crime :p, 1st time I saw him off duty was at a steakhouse I immediately said ''I KNEW IT!'' he & family (hadn't met yet) looked puzzled...I said ''full beef diet!'' roaring laughter followed. Big big guy, could hardly get behind the wheel hehe

Hey Gunny, can U elaborate o the rest of the build. Barrel, BCG, trigger etc. I can see the obvious MOE and the optics box

Great weekend. Loved the eight big ones for the AR.

May I but touch the hem of your robe?

I heard about vet organizations closing down about a year ago, thought it was a shame. My second thought was where are people going to bring their retired flags for proper disposal?

This is great and for some Veterans, essential.

It's sad to see so many VFW's close over the years in my state.
Many of the VFWs are nothing but bars for veterans. A few that I’ve gone to were just a place to drink. I joined the VFW in my home town after I came home years ago. They didn’t even have their own place. They would meet each month at the high school. After a few meetings, I stopped going. The members pretty much just sat around and shot the bull and talked about the next funeral that might be coming up.
There’s a large chapter in Baton Rouge that rents out their hall for functions. I have always just felt out of place at VFW halls.

The upper is one of the higher end ones from PSA. It has an FN BCB and barrel. I didn’t go real fancy on the trigger and hammer it was one of the nickel boron sets that I had on hand, don’t remember who made it. It was clean and crisp and broke at 4lbs. The rest of the LPK was Aero Precision.
The red dot sight is a Sig Sauer ROMEO 7S. The lower is a PSA Let’s Go Brandon. The rifle cost me about $700 to build.
