The Ruger Service Six is a real sleeper

I have noticed a steep climb in revolver prices in the last 2 years, especially in the ones that have a reputation for durability.

Not certain whats driving it, but suspect people are setting one or two aside incase of a semi-auto ban that seems permanently on the horizon.

I think one of the driving forces behind the rise in interest of the SS was the introduction of the "asset" hole in S&Ws. Those who didn't like Hillery or the clunky heavy design of the GP-100 discovered the Six series and off they went.

I am too a fan of the Ruger "Six series" revolvers.
I was a S&W devotee - still am - but was issued a Security Six by the Border Patrol. That was in 1977. I carried it for several years - scored high shooter for a couple years in qualifications. My opinion came to be the Ruger 'Six' was a better value - dollar for dollar - than the S&W. Being the snob I am, I still prefer the S&W, but I found no flies on that Ruger.
Then I found out a number of pistol smiths were working on Ruger revolvers to clean up the double action pull (which wasn't suffering from the factory). Some 'smiths were even making them into Police Pistol Combat (PPC) target pistols.

I was hurt, offended and outraged when Ruger quit making them.

I saw a stainless Security Six 4", about 7 years ago for a tidy sum of $338.00. As I recall, I thought it was a little steep for gun with no support, but I guess it doesn't need any.
I thought I had to have it so I went home with it. It's wife's gun now. Loaded with copper plated wadcutters in .357 mag cases, with a load she can handle.
I haven't seen it for years, I keep forgetting I have it. I know where she hides it though. I probably need to get it out and clean it so there isn't a lint explosion if she ever has to use it.

I wonder sometimes how much people posting on forums about them creates more of an interest which leads to popularity.
