4in 357.
The rear sight for me isn't as important as the front.
My eyes are not going to get better, a FO front is very helpful. (FO/Tritium even better)
And 8 shots! Of hot 357, good "defense" against all 2 legged, and most (if not all) 4 legged creatures in N. America.

1976B I am with you I started this mess and can't even vote LOL. Every time I hover the mouse over one my left finger won't push the button.

I’d go with the 44, and probably shoot nothing but +P Specials in it.

Matter of fact, I’d rather have a +P 44 Special gun, instead, if that was an option.

Tough choice! My favorite caliber is .44 Special, the only reason I voted that way. Nice revolvers, you could not go wrong with either.

I am a revolver advocate. I regularly carry a revolver when I'm not carrying my Commander.

However, to directly answer the question: None of the above.
For self defense, I prefer (in the revolver world) a K frame .38 Special with three inch barrel and fixed sights. Using ammunition on the order of the 'Chicago load', not the age old standby.
This is in the context of my current status carrying a concealed sidearm. Were I carrying an open belt holster, likely it would be a four inch .357 Magnum - Model 19 appeals to me.

S&W 'N' frames are unwieldy for me. The 681 my only 357MAG serves as UDR

I’m with Archie regarding a K frame. Make mine a Model 13-1 series with a 3” barrel and round butt. Ultimate Defense Revolver needs context. For me no one handgun is right for all situations.

If I am going to carry an N frame it will be one of my 3” 657 .41 magnums.

I'm guessing we are talking SD against two legged predators as opposed to a charging grizzly. Going by that, I'd go with the .357.

I'd go with the 627 between the two. Preferably with .38+P for quicker follow ups if needed (against 2 legged enemy).

I prefer the 44 , but we're getting older by the minute , so I would say both and just use which one I fancy at the moment , we all know we can't have to many , those are really nice looking revolvers , Mr revolver guy
