The new and much improved RDS arrived today. The inexpensive ebay trial unit has been returned and the new Holosun 507C X2 is installed on the K38. What a blessing for elderly eyes.
This new RDS has all kinds of nice features, like a solar cell across it's top that powers it in bright conditions while the battery works in low light. The unit turns itself off after 10 minutes of no movement and will return to the same brightness setting if it senses movement. It has 3 reticle settings, dot, circle and circle with dot. Many other options there too, the instructions sheet has half a page, small print, telling me how to set up different things.
It goes to my club tomorrow to be zeroed and get me used to it.

Nice looking revolver. If you're familiar with this type of sight, maybe you can answer a question for me. I have the same sight on a S&W 686-6 SSR. I shot it yesterday for the first time(with sight). I was shooting free hand so I'm sure that was part of my problem. At 15 yards, my grouping was not great. Any suggestions that may help me with accuracy using this sight? Thanks.

Glenn;
With all due respect, good accuracy with a handgun is 80% shooter and 20% firearm. Your 686 (like mine) is an excellent revolver, well known for accuracy. My suggestions are:
1, Get yourself a .22 pistol of decent quality and several bricks of .22 ammo.
2, Go to your favorite range or club & watch the shooters. When you spot one that is getting great accuracy, ask him / her to watch you shoot your .22 and critique your stance, hold, trigger pull etc.
3, Listen to what the good shooter says, take the advice and practice practice practice. Do this with other good shooters again and again as you learn.
4, WITH A GOOD SNAPCAP dry fire your .22 or 686 at home while watching the front sight for movement. The red dot will clearly show errant movement with trigger pull.
5, Practice practice practice.
6, Practice practice practice.
Finally, with your 686, find some target wadcutter .38 special ammo & practice with that NOT .357 ammo. Remember to carefully and thoroughly clean your cylinder to remove the ring from .38 ammo.
In the end, a properly adjusted nut behind the trigger is the answer.

Glenn, Do you have experience with dots on other firearms?

Shooting a dot on a handgun has a tendency to make me want to snatch the shot at the exact right time, I think because it makes all of your movements seem more pronounced even though they really aren’t.

You will have to force yourself to ignore all of the movement and just concentrate on trigger control.

For me it was getting used to the dot being higher than the standard sights..I had to start holding the gun at a slightly different angle than I was used to with the open sights.

Other than this slight change, the dot was pretty cool. I shot better with the dot offhand at 20 yards than I could do with open sights anymore. (I was still dialing it in, it shot a tad low with bulk ammo on this target.)

Once you get out there, let us know how it shoots for you. :)

Stay safe.

i got the holosun 407c last week and haven't mounted it yet. i will mount it on my canik darkside rival. i went with the 407c since it is cheaper than the 507 and the only difference is the 2 moa dot vs the 3 reticles on the 507( 2 moa, 32 moa circle with 2 moa at center and the 32 moa circle without a dot). since it will be for range use only i am ok with just using the 2 moa dot. i have a matchdot ultradot on my 22 victory and i just use the 2 moa dot all the time. this will be my first rds on a reciprocating slide.

That is good shooting! Thanks for the suggestions, from all. I have a 22 Browning Buckmark that I've never shot so I will put the Holosun sight on it and see how I shoot.
