Color me unenthused. The M&P is one of the best of the plastic fantastics made. If you are going to change it use steel.

I am not 100% against it exactly.

Seems like a step backwards as far as what is fashionable these days.

I could see it being a cool thing for a limited run.

I guess to see more value in designing a new metal gun than retrograding an older design Poly pistol with a new metal part.

There is a reason the best plastic fantastic shooters in the world add weight to their guns in competition. Weight does in fact matter quite a bit.

Now, EDCing a 5lb gun just because it's extremely flat is probably no one's ideal choice.

So it's a other tool. I have no use for it, but I see why it exists.

The trigger looks like the Plus trigger, which is a plus.

As I keep telling myself, I have enough guns already, plus not really a fan of most "modern" (aka- striker ignition) designs. Nevertheless, yeah, I'm interested.

I just today saw a blurb for more Wilson "solid frame" guns, too.
I think the Walther PPQ lineup is fading in favor of the PDP, except for the ones transmogrified to steel frames.

I kind of see this as a large picture business thing. People who are going to buy polymer have already bought all the polymer they want or need. Time and again we see there is a market for all metal pistols. By introducing what should be a tried and true operating system (M&P 2.0) in metallic form, this market gets what it wants. If it sells well, they probably will move further down the line with additional offerings.

It would be interesting to see a comparative shooting review of the metal and poly versions of this same pistol. Does the additional weight and stiffness of metal change anything compared to the lighter, more flex poly? That sort of thing.

As for the offering, more choices are always good.

The test will be in competitive match ups of polymer vs. these metal guns.

Been there, done that, got the pistol.

The interesting thing for me is that the M&P series simply duplicates the ergonomics from the original compact factory Wonder Nine from the 1980s. Plus the 469 weighs in at 26.56 ounces.

Here is a Shield 2.0 on top of my 469 with the slide tops aligned. Notice the trigger alignments and grip angles. Even the grip height is near identical if I use the extended Shield magazine. But the 469 is 15 rounds.



The M&P compact is virtually identical to the dimensions and ergonomics of the 469, even closer than the Shield.

And my 469 fits in my Shield 45 kydex holster.

This looks interesting. An aluminum frame, optics ready, compatible with M&P 2.0 holsters, mags, palmswells, etc. They also say it has the 2.0 trigger, but I sure would like to see the Plus trigger in it.

Use a 15 round 59 magazine. So it's actually 15 + 1.

Smart marketing choice from S&W, I'm sure a lot will sell! I know some people would love a modern striker pistol, but simply have an aversion to one made of plastic.

I can see where they are coming from. Plastic, especially for something as heavy duty as a firearm, may look like a weak building material... BUT, having 6,000 + rounds on my good'ol polymer M&P, and not seeing any signs of polymer frame wear whatsoever... I'm perfectly content with my "tactical Tupperware", and have little interest in this new aluminum frame version. Still, it's always cool to see new guns hit the market, especially from my favorite company!
