I picked up an odd 9mm case at the range this morning. I'm assuming this round was fired out of battery, but why is the front bulged? In any case, I'm thinking this fellow was lucky.

I can confirm what others have said. I produced my own baby goblet when I dropped a 40 S&W at the range, bent down and picked "it" up, loaded it and fired. No problems observed, felt, or heard...but produced a very neat goblet. Somehow, my EMP 40 held the 9mm evenly in the chamber, as my fired case was very symmetrical. Sadly, my son grabbed it for his own collection before I could.
I've never been tempted to try it on purpose...and since then, I examine all dropped and "found" rounds to verify it's what I was shooting.

I picked up a 9mm fired in a 40 cal chamber, and that round split down the side. That shooter got a big gas release, might have blown out the magazine.

Ok, that makes perfect sense. Think I'll keep that souvenir just as a reminder.
My wife once fired a .380 in a 9mm. Only thing we noticed is that it didn't eject.
Ya'll be careful out there:)

Yeh, 9mm fired from a 40.
The extractor holds the round against the slide face and the firing pin is able to set it off.
That'll make a funny sound and you can usually see the bullet in flight if you are standing behind the shooter (holding a timer).
And yes, the bullet hit the steel target and sounded like a pellet hit it.

I have even seen 264 win mag fired from 300 Weatherby. Guy went from doing Ok to not even making it on paper.

I wish I had asked for one of the cases or at least had a camera handy back then. There was no neck anymore and it had been blown into a now fluted shoulder.

I shot a .380 from my P228/9mm. The sound and recoil were the give away. Otherwise it worked as it should. Of course it wasn't me who loaded it into the magazine. Must have been my shooting buddy, son. LOL
