A knife for my wife

We have seen the threads that ask about the perfect gun for a wife/girlfriend.

I ask if there is a perfect knife for my wife:
Years ago I bought her a little pink Buck lockblade for her to carry. She kept it in her purse. It showed up from time to time in the junk drawer or the laundry change crock. Now that I think of it, I haven't seen it in a while.
Mrs and I made an early morning trip to the hospital 3.5hrs away where her dad was being treated. She was going to stay with her parents and drive them home after the procedure. Unfortunately she was unable to be armed with her pistol due to hospital policy. As it happened they delayed the release of her father until late at night. That left mrs farmer retrieving her parent's vehicle from the hospital parking lot well after dark. I told her that I wish I had stayed with her under the circumstances. She told me, "no worries, i had my hand on my knife the whole time I was walking in the parking lot."
I asked WHAT KNIFE?
I shuddered when she pulled a crappy store brand folding utility knife from her jeans pocket.. ...o_O
I have a drawer full of otf, auto, flipper, defensive knives of decent to high quality. :cuss:

She's carrying my Kershaw Chive for now.
I'm going to get something that suits her better.
I'm thinking a colored Spyderco 3" or 3½ lockback with the thumb hole in the blade so she doesn't chip her fixxy nails trying to open it.

Does your mrs or significant other have a carry knife?
If so, name it.
 
My wife likes both the spyderco Delica and the spyderco native. Both have pink scales, s30v steel and are lock backs. She prefers the Delica ever so slightly.

She prefers the Delica for cutting performance and the Native for ergos.

Sounds like you're describing either the Endella or Stretch II. Both of those are a little less common but I like them.

The Endella splits the difference in size between the Delica and the Endura

The Stretch II is available with 2 dfferent blade styles and 2 differnent steels. VG10 is the less expensive steel, but not bad. This was supposedly the Spyderco founder's favorite knife.

Not a lot of color options for those 2. Many more choices for the Delica and Endra, but those blades are either 3" or just under 4". The ones I linked to above are right at 3.5"

Yes. Her personal pocket knife is a Swiss Army (Victorionix) knife. I don't know which one because they have sooooooo many that are so similar, so don't ask me. That's her general, utilitarian pocket knife she carries all the time. It's one of their medium pocket knives, on the same general order as a Mountaineer if you care to look that up.

For places that seem to be knife-unfriendly, she carries a folding ceramic knife, the same as I do. Ceramic knives are not what I'd call a "working knife", as they're brittle and absolutely cannot be used for anything that might involve prying or twisting. But for a straight cut, they absolutely cannot be beat for a sharp edge. And they don't set off metal detectors. (The only metal on the ones we use are the aluminum post and screw for the hinge. And it's small enough that only the most sensitive metal detectors will detect it, which means the sensitivity is also set so high the rivets and zippers in your jeans are also setting the metal detectors off. It can be thumbed open one handed, too.

Does she carry any kind of "tactical" knife, fixed blade, or other one handed opening knife? Genarally, no. She would if she felt she needed to. And if she wanted one, she'd either get one or tell me about it so I'd get her one.
 
I'd have her look through all of your knives and ask her to pick one she likes instead of picking something for her (but I advocate that for most anything for another person). I'd just make sure that there was an FRN Spyderco Native or Delica in that selection so she has the opportunity to handle a Spyderco. They're fast to open once you grip the hole and flip the handle down into lock.

Careful! My wife does this with some of my things and likes to ask "Is that mine?"

I've lost a couple guns to her this way!

My wife carries the SAK classic on her key ring, but she is often seen in the company of a surly fellow with a honey badger or Hogue to clip tags and open packages. The mini-strike auto would be my suggestion for Mrs Farmer. Not flashy and currently on sale: https://www.bladehq.com/item--Boker-Mini-Strike-Automatic-Knife--99630. Another possibility is a Gerber Dime multi tool, which is small and works better than most recent Gerber products.
 
I made the mistake of showing my wife the bladehq spyderco section. She wants a purple (her favorite color) Delicate have been looking at the same model for a few years but in another color. She currently has an Opinel no. 6 with a purple handle.

I had a Delica 21 years ago, but lost it the weekend of my 21st birthday. My current edc knife is either a Case medium stockman or a Kershaw Leek. I want to buy another Delica and have wanted one for a few years, but keep finding other things I want more. Dang other hobbies, always getting in the way of knife collecting.
 
I'm of the firm opinion that there's a perfect knife for everyone.

My wife has one that she considers to be perfect. She won't carry it because she likes it too much and is afraid of losing it. She has a Spyderco Native that she likes pretty well and will actually carry--sometimes...
