My Barreled M7 action in .350RM just got back today from Cerakoting today. The Manners MCS-EH8 Plus stock arrived last week. Tomorrow the package heads to my smith for bedding. Based on the current weights I'm getting 5.7lbs of "bolt action fury" (IAW the Ad), which is slightly lighter than the original 600 Magnum and adds another 1.5" in barrel length for some additional "fury".

Total weight with scope (it has two scopes, a 1.25-4 Swarovski and a 2.5-8x36 Leupold), 4rds of 225 grain and sling will be just under 7lbs. I'm hoping the accuracy holds, this is 3rds of 200Hornady Interlock at 2830FPs (I call it Fury (-), cause it can hit over 2900) That I worked up a load for last year. The 225 Partitions performed just as well. The manners will be free-floated, the OEM stock had forward pressure.



Sticking to the lighter .358 bullets it gets a little more MV than the .35Whelen in a more compact package. Before it's transformation it was 8+ lbs of "fury" due to the laminated Mannlicher stock:



It was showing some wear due to be carried for a few years in the Pacific North Wet and needed a facelift. So it got a facelift and went on a diet.

I'm hoping it's completed in time for some drives this season, that will give me some time to save up for a red checkered Filson.

Agreed, maybe a year earlier. The 600 in .350RM came out in '64'.

and it's a "Scout" scope to boot! So back in the day when Remington was innovative they developed the 1st "short magnums" and at least pictured a scout scope...

Coming out of my tour in Germany in '90' I went through a "Mannlicher" stock period...it didn't help that my FIL was an Austrian Forestmeister. I owned 3 of them at one time, the M7 and 2 Steyrs. I've since divested, as it sits now (or shortly) I've only got 1 wood stocked hunting rifle left, which is another Steyr in 8x68S. I started making the move to synthetics, SS and Cerakote a few years ago for the stuff I consider to be tools.

I in past used the Remington 200gr Corlokt bullets over a healthy charge of H4895. Switched to LVR.
NOW, however due to Corlokts being history, I use the RCBS 200gr FNGC cast slug. At 218gr at 2,050fps it’s a HARD hitter.

I also have a BLR in .358win. I want to like the rifle, but the trigger is crappy! I finally found a decent load for it and have killed a couple of deer with it. Thanks Ken Waters! His “pet load” of H4895 turned out to be the trick! It also wants the bullets seated WAAY out! As long as the magazine allows.

When the .350RemMag came out, it just wasn’t “cool”. Weatherby Mags had fancy stocks of Claro Walnut and LOONG barrels, and Star gazing scopes! I was enamored with the only .350mag M660 I ever saw at a Mason’s Department Store. Everybody Poo-Poo’d the “plywood” stock but I was fond of it. At 12yoa, I could hardly swing the $175.00 price tag....

Personally, I’d have kept the rifle original. But I can understand the desire to “Spruce it up”!
BTW, I have 3 Model 7’s. They’re my favorite Bolt Action.

I sort of kept in original as I could....the Cerakote is Midnight Blue, which comes close to bluing. Close, but not really. This M7 came from the custom shop and the bluing was very, very, nicely done. It really did need to be refinished though, the bolt handle nob was pretty much "in the white" and the mag floor plate was looking rough from being carried. I also did my best to "baby" the stock when out hunting, but it's getting the normal usage wear. I thought about selling or trading it for a M7 KS, but this one has always shot pretty awesome. I am keeping the MS stock, so IF I get nostalgic I can slip the M7 back into the original stock.

I agree on the .35, there's something about going in at .358" and coming out at .60"+. My positively favorite bullet in the .350RM is the Nolser 225, it performs well and at 2700+ FPS has about the same trajectory as a 30-06 with a 180. I've yet to recover one and it's worked well on a couple bull elk, deer, and a couple pigs. Unfortunately, like many other great hunting bullets they're unobtanium now and over $1.50 per (which I'd pay IF I could find them!). I worked up the 200 Hornady load, because I could find them and whitetails/pigs don't need that much killing. I'm also on the hunt for the Barnes 200 gr TSX, again unobtanium, but IMHO the 225 Nolser outperforms it at least on paper.

Also agree about the 7s in general, I've also got 3. Unfortunately Remarms hasn't brought them back (yet?) and on the used market they're going for stupid prices now. IF I do put together another M7-ish rifle I'll probably just go with a Defiance AN-Ti with the M7 footprint.

BTW, I have been looking at BLR lightweights in .358..I NEED a wood's rifle fast repeater! So it's a toss-up between a BLR and a 7600/760 that I can have bored out to .358" or .338" something.

I dunno about that.. The Mosin Carbine is honestly one of the only rifles that I've been handed to shoot, and I gave back after firing 1 round. With the full power rifle loads it was seriously no joy. Those guys were made of sterner stuff back then!

Yup, vented plastic rib and the shark fin like the Nylon 66. It's interesting that folks like it..now because back in the 60's those features drew a lot of negative reviews like above. Personally I'm not a fan of the look either and would have rather bought the 660 with 20" barrel sans vent rib. The 660 gained some weight, but had a more traditional styling:



That right there sends me shopping for red plaid stuff.

I have no difficulty regaling in full FUDD-dom and am quite proud to own only one black rifle. A lightweight bolt carbine with elephant stomping power (and shoulder busting recoil) is the e-ticket for me . That rig would have twice, three times the range of my 1895SBL and still flatten crap and at least two pounds off my Savage Scout! I am in!

Before I ordered it I went back and forth on a couple of different calibers. I was stationed at Ft. Lewis WA and NEEDED something that fit better for where I was hunting which was more timber, with sporadic clear cuts. At the time all I had was long actions with 24+ inch barrels. Where we hunted that was a PITA while going over deadfalls etc. So something that could do 25yds, by do I mean handle well, and still get out past 300+ IF I had to across a small clear cut.

My 1st choice was the .358 Win in either a BLR or Savage 99, but they were hard to find, very hard to find either new or used. I also looked at the .45-70 because I was shooting one in BPCR matches and had all the "stuff" to load. But that whole "across the clear cut" thing held me back. Then I happened upon the Rem M7 with either the MS or KS stock and ordered the MS. It took me about 8 months to find one, and only then by staying in touch with the Rem custom shop and tracking when a batch was completed and which distributor they were shipped to.

I worked up 2 loads, the 225NP at just over 2700FPS and the Speer 250 Hot Core at just under 2500FPS. My scope was zero'd for the 225s and the irons for the 250s.

As luck would have it, my tastes changed so now I'm turning the MS into a KS (in effect). Now I'm just using it on deer and pigs. I'm working up a WY Elk hunt now and it will go with me as either a back-up or primary depending on what the terrain is looking like. That's a couple years and a few more points away though.
