Settle debate between buddies

Get a shot timer, both of you shoot 5 rounds of yours, then trade and shoot again. That wil give you objective data.
Objective data on what?:scrutiny:
A shot timer may measure speed of draw, but little else. It doesn't measure comfort of the holster/belt, the security or retention of the handgun and certainly nothing to do with the handgun itself.

One could have a $500 belt/holster combo with an HK P7 M13.......and have a slow draw because of lack of practice. Or a $100 Heritage Rough Rider .22 in a Wal Mart Uncle Mikes holster and be faster than the Lone Ranger because you practice drawing that gun daily.

I'm not really sure what the OP and his friend are debating. If its quality his friend wins because Glock>Sprinfield XD. If ts overall "setup" his friend wins because of the weapon light.

Ok ... Here are the rules ....

Whoever spends the most money on their Set-Up Wins the contest ... there are no limits to what may be attached to the firearm , belt or holster ... as long as it is concealable .

Ready - Set - Go Spend Money

Which is better for the two of you can be settled as others have previously mentioned; get a shot timer and run some drills.
As to my personal preference, the Glock is the shinier of two turds. The feel of both guns is off for me, but I can shoot Glocks very well; not as much with the XD.

Agree that a little friendly competition would show any differences. It would be hard to separate gear and skill, though.
Comfort matters, so arrange to spend all day together in similar activity and see who groans the loudest.

I don't think the gun matters much, of the two people I will be shooting with tomorrow, one goes Glock, the other XD, and both get the job done.
Me? I'll have a Colt for the match tomorrow, but when I get an itch for a Plastic Pistole, it is a Smith and Wesson.

Ford, Chevy, Dodge; 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, 1 ton.

Pick what suits your needs and you are comfortable with. Same for him.

The rest is just chatter around the stove.

Stay safe.
That's always my thinking and advice. You need to be comfortable with gun, holster, position and anything and everything else. What works for my friends works for them, they are comfortable with their choices and what works for me is said same. That's all I got. :)

So you and your buddy are splitting hairs between full size striker fired poly handguns holstered in Kydex OWB holsters? Uh... O.K. more power too ya.

Doesn't the XD hold 19 rounds and the G19 17 rounds? That would be the only substantial difference I could see. Otherwise it's just a Ford vs. Chevy thing. YMMV.

Puts me in mind of debating which non-sugar artificial sweetener is best in one's coffee... Or what's a better time to schedule a root canal, early morning or late afternoon?

On a serious note (really), if the gear I'm using works well for me, I tend not to worry about what my buddies are using. Although I reserve the right to make fun of them when they make odd choices...

My personal preference is the Glock, I don't really like XD's. It more of an aesthetics and feel thing to me. The XD has a huge blocky slide quite a bit taller than the Glock. And, the closer to your palm barrel is, the more accurate you can be, it also has less felt recoil, at least to me. This is the same reason the Rhino revolver has the barrel at the bottom part of the gun.

The grip safety on the XD is a deal breaker for me. Those are far more likely to prevent the gun from firing when you really need it to fire than to prevent an accidental discharge. I owned one for a while and other than that I liked them. But I won't buy another

Even a 1911 would be a better gun without the grip safety and it is a much better design than the one XD uses. Back in the day when the 1911 was more popular for carry many serious shooters deactivated, or at least taped down the grip safety on them for that very reason.

This was my first thought. I looked at an XD when I first started shooting, and the sales guy told me not to buy it because of the grip safety. When I asked why, he told me that in 1 year they had 2 grip safeties on the XDs they rent fail, and render the guns non-fireable, they had to go back to the factory. For this reason, I pick the Glock setup, and I don't like glocks either. Springfield makes some good rifles, thier pistols, meh; there are better choices than either.

Different strokes for different folks, no definitive answer as the person shooting is a massive variable. I agree shooting each others guns is the way to go.

"make me feel better about my carry choice because my buddy thinks his is better and niether of us can sleep without the expert approval of the internet".
Ford, Chevy, Dodge? It's not even that serious. Not even as serious as Oreo vs Hydrox, but more on the line of what milk to dunk them in. Since I'm not a fan of either holster you're dunking in, I can't take sides.

A well practiced shooter can out shoot (draw, aim and such) than a poor one, generally despite gear and equipment. It would be pure speculation as to who would come out on top.

You guys should go play IDPA/USPSA, shoot a steel match or something like that. You’ll both likely be better than you are now at a number of things.

If you don’t really care, just change the conversation, debate ended.

I’ve picked up a few XD’s off prize tables at matches, I won with other pistols (Glocks among them), sold the XD’s off though. Not that they are an unreliable or unusable pistol at all, just that I do not prefer them.

If we all liked the exact same things, there would be a lot of lonely people in the world.
