As I have said in several of these brace threads; I am not changing a thing, or even doing anything to prepare until I have concrete information on what I need to change to be legal. There will be plenty of time (at least 120 days) from when concrete rules are release till the earliest they will try to enforce it. I am confident that I can choose the best legal path forward for myself after I have a definitive set of options to choose from. Until then I will enjoy my braced AR and let you guys do the worrying. :neener:
 
Hey at least AR pistol barrels will be getting cheap.
Also I didn't see it specifically mentioned anywhere but one should be able to permanently afix a muzzle device to a short barrel bringing the length over 16 inches making it a rifle.

Looks like 16+ barrels are about to become real popular, I better secure my next project barrel.

that’s why I buy random stuff on sale. Years ago Davison Defense had 16” barrels with gas tube, block, and brake… for around $60. Bought as much as I could
 
How many of these braced firearms have been sold over the years? 10s of millions would be my guess. It will be interesting to watch the legal challenges and if it gets past those, who the government chooses to use as high profile examples.
My vote is that most will ignore the new rules.

How many will simply not be aware of the new rule. How many bump stocks are still out there and the owners don't even know they are NFA items now? It's not like there was a huge PR campaign to educate the general population on this new ruling. If you were a bump stock owner that does not spend much time on the internet you might have no clue.

ATF was saying 4 million braced AR pistols.
But atf thinks it's around 40 million they can go after, but there's only been like 10 million or less AR pistols sold since the 1990s including the ones sold with the slick tube, so they must be going after krinks or AK pistols, MP5 pistols, TC contenders, 10/22 charger pistols, who knows it will take all kinds of stuff to make up that 40 million target number.

You might have to go back farther to find much trust in the government. :) My father's generation (one of the Greatest Generation), generally, exhibited that Trust.

He reared me to trust the government (as a Default) ... but I have seen too much governmental/political bad/venal/vainglorious/mendacious/morally-ambiguous behavior.

As a comparison, if a couple of Federal Officers showed up on the front porch, Dad would politely ask them in for coffee ... I, otoh, would probably politely ask them to leave my property.

Actually, part of that may be connected to Rule#1 of protecting yourself from vampires ... Do Not Invite Them Into Your Home. ;).

Oh ... and I haven't developed any idea regarding how most folks will respond to the change(s) in Pistol Brace Issues. I built one (.300BO) but will await the final rules prior to making a decision.

I know ... no help at all. Story of my life. ;)

That's about the best option for me I think. It's all so dumb. I'll see about maybe trying to find aluminum because the whole point of the braced pistol was to give my small wife a more weildy AR to be as light as possible

I like this idea. Would it then be a legal rifle??

Heck I have a Bull Pup (28 inches) and the overall length is not that much different .

Maybe that number represents the ones SOLD as a complete pistol. Almost every owner I know who has one (or a dozen) built them themselves from stripped lowers and parts. So how would the ATF even know about these unless the owners filled out the amnesty request? They would have to get the customer sales info on pistol length uppers and short barrels as well as pistol braces. That seems like a monumental and $$$$ task.
 
We have learned from the past that rules today mean nothing tomorrow. I would like to think (special agent I know you are listening) that the AFT would not toss us in the pokey for something like this or the bump stocks.

But.......

I believe it will make the overall length 16" (legal) since I will be permanently attached but then it's essentially a carbine sized AR, wh8ch doesn't do much for my wife since the whole point was to make it more compact and light.

I don't want to SBR anything.. I suppose I should see if I can hunt down a couple muzzle devices that would get me to legal length before there is a run on those and become expensive... guess I'll be buying a couple stocks too......
