1858 Holster !!!! love it

The slim Jim with the fully exposed trigger guard is probably the least period correct looking holster I own. It's also closer to period correct because it's really snug fitting. I actually have a set of them
 
I'm like Hawg...I prefer more period correct gun leather....just me.

Being able to cock the pistol before drawing it out of the holster would be more important to me than an exposed trigger. But.....the "quick draw" is mostly a Hollywood fabrication. The "bushwhack" would be the most common method of gun fighting in the old west.

I don’t know about you old timers and I’m sure you had your quick draw phase in life.

I’m in my quick draw phase in life and I see it not stopping anytime soon. Just be safe. But Lots of 25-35 year olds are getting into cowboy life

Bushwhack as in shooting somebody with a shotgun from an alley. Nobody wanted to take a chance on getting shot because even a wound often lead to death from infection. One on one street fights were extremely rare and fast draw wasn't done. That's a Hollyweird fantasy to sell movie tickets. If they made a movie about how the old west really was nobody would watch it.

Then was what was called " buffaloeing" where the offending party got whacked over the head with a pistol barrel. Took the fight outta them and they usually woke up in jail with a real bad headache.
 
The Earps and a lot of other lawmen did the buffalo thing, saved getting the town shot up or collateral damage from bullets flying everywhere.

Exactly.....or Wild Bill Hickok, Billy the Kid, or Morgan Earp....and any of dozens of others.

As far as the weapons, they are a piece of history and in my opinion, should be treated as such. Not doing so is kinda like taking a flat head V12 Lincoln and putting it in a new Camaro.....it's a unique idea, but it's just not right. :) Studying the history of gun leather helps tell us the story of how these fine weapons were used. It's as interesting a story as the guns themselves.
 
I'm pretty sure a half ars home made/picked up/found anywhere holster is 100% period correct.
You know plenty of folks tried hard, but didn't quite get there to what they were aiming at.

hahahahaha. spinning hurts my arthritic fingers. I have a few clones and have been favoring the shorter barrels lately. The one in the pic has the dreaded retractable firing pin. I have found it totally reliable and it has found a place as my knock around gun when i'm at my camp in the Appalachians. I'm a city boy that becomes Jeremiah Johnson on the weekends.

that’s funny! I’m looking at a short 1873 .357. I like that these clones look so good and are functional. And priced to wear and shoot and have fun with
