Drove on down to Simpson's today and picked up this cute little squirt. It was described as re-finished and as tight and slick as the day it left the factory. Both were true. Whoever did the refinish knew what he was doing. All screw heads are pristine and if the bore were a collectable coin, it would be graded MS 70. I don't know if these guns left the factory with those heavily varnished stocks or not, but I'm leaving them alone either way.

I can't find much info on these guns. What I can find seems to indicated most of these guns had a brass frame, usually nickel plated. I'm guessing mine is iron, since it obviously isn't brass. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

I was warned to only shoot standard velocity shorts or CB caps in the gun. That makes sense to me, the breech lockup on these guns isn't exactly bank vault strong. I suspect even standard velocity rounds would eventually loosen up things. I plan to stick to CB caps, loaded in short cases, when I can find them. I did fire one round of high velocity to test things. Worked fine, and I'll call that a proof test. Lol !.

Looks a little like the old "Butler" single-barrel derringers. Cool little find. I bought one of the NAA revolvers in Short recently just to round out my trio and was quite tickled when I checked my old ammo stash thinking I might have had a couple of dozen CB caps, and found 200 rounds of Short instead.

My neighbor has a similar Steven's, longer barrel and in 32 rimfire. His is in poor shape compared to yours. He just picked up another, a HY Hunter copy of the Stevens in 22LR. The Hy Hunter is almost mint and has a hooded front sight and a buckhorn rear sight. The HY Hunters were made in West Germany.

I never buy anything off the internet. had my ID stolen once. Won't ever happen again. Call me paranoid, but people that have nearly impossible bad thing happen to them... usually are.

Bingo! Scheel's in Iowa City had thousands of rounds of this stuff! I snagged 600. $19.95 per hundred. Fired some rounds and guess what? Despite the almost nonexistent sights, that little gun puts them right on point of aim at 15 yards. :what: I'll be damned...

Rock185, that looks fantastic! May I ask if you shoot it much, and how well has the action held up? Any looseness or play in the barrel or does it still lock up tight ?

tark, I enjoy the old pistol because it does have that "Old Timey" look, but don't shoot it much. I can feel slight play between frame and barrel.

Went back to Scheel's and grabbed another thousand rounds of CB shorts. I had the price wrong in post # 12. It was $11.99 per hundred. I have found a source for parts at Jack First Inc. and ordered a spare mainspring. I have discovered that the hammer needs to be at half cock before opening the barrel. The firing pin will drag on the empty case. Just like a sharps 1874
