Sure, it's mostly all my fault, but I've made some terrible deals lately. Getting the '46 Marlin 39A I picked up a couple months ago turned into a money pit. Now it's broken and I'm not sure if it'll get fixed. Fitted 2 different types of cartridge cutoff and can't get it to work. Single shot lever guns are kinda frustrating.

Traded for a Ruger 22/45 that was supposed to be a MKIII... didn't pay close enough attention and got a MKII that someone scabbed removable grip panels onto. Traded a decent little rifle and already felt like I was trading down somewhat, but wanted to try a 22/45 since I've never owned one. Now I'm waaaay upside down in it.

And the brick of CCI Blazers I bought at the flea market for $30 have chalky white bullets where the lube hardened and the first few I tried won't even chamber.

Think I'll cool off on buying or trading for a bit and be thankful I've got plenty of other stuff to use.
 
I am sorry to hear about unfortunate transactions. I hate selling stuff because I worry that it may disappoint. Most of my stuff has an unknown history because I got it used, but has worked well for me. The good thing about buying used is that I get to operate it to make sure it works.

Model 39s had a lot of hand fitting, IIRC. Find someone who is familiar with them to help you. Many folks prefer the MKII because it didn't have mag safety/loaded indicator/other "improvements". Clean up the frame and don't look back. I am sure I have read about cleaning up bullets with degraded wax lube--possibly on rimfire central. I will look for article, but worst case scenario would be a quick twist in a steel wool pad. And the old boxes may have collector value. :confused:
 
Sorry to hear your streak of bad deals. Just think that it could be worst. try light tumbling the .22 then give it a coat of cooking spray

I like the 22/45 Mk2! perfer it over tge MK3 it’s good

the tough one is the 39A, don’t have any advice.

Bad part is the boxes aren't that old. I mean, new enough to have a bar code on them, which makes them newer than a bunch of my .22 ammo. 16644035922668041985486184991839.jpg

I may send the 39A to a smith, but availability of parts is the rub. I've got the cartridge cutoff to work, but the one that's in it now is too short. Holds the cartridge in the tube, but binds the bolt best I can tell, throwing off the timing for the lifter. I dunno. I'm kinda over it and will probably take a loss to let someone else worry about it.

The 22/45 is either gonna get sold at a loss or end up Cerakoted Caution Orange...just as a reminder.

Sorry about your luck. I also have bought a lemon or two, but it ultimately gets followed by a gem. I have no doubt that your gun-luck will improve :thumbup:.

when we were kids, we would find .22 on the ground, looked old as everything, and shot them though our single shot rifles. They fired!

we also lost a MRE of meatballs and found it in the woods a year later. Still tasted good! lol

I personally like a project that can hang out with me for a while until I am in a position to fix it. It makes a good wall piece however if I payed good money for something it's a different story.
I'd keep the 39A for the same reason. You never know when parts for it may show up.

I would dump those .22’s in the tumbler with some corncob for a couple hours. Clean em right up.
 
It happens to everyone who buys and trades a lot of gun stuffs. I hit a bad stretch for about a year one time, seemed like everything I touched turned to dookie. I just took a good 6 month break and it seemed to reset my luck.

what 2? During the Plandemic, I bought a 1873 10mm that the cylinder lock snapped off before I could shoot, and Uberti at the time was a 5-6 months repair wait. $25 in parts, fitted myself. Now it shoots real good
 
Well I mean, if I can find a Remington 742 even in bad shape, I'd pay <250 for it. I know it's junk but I can work around that.
Junk guns can have their place.

That ammo looks like it was swapped out for what was originally in the box

Hopefully, after you have the MKII and 39A on the back burner for a bit, you can get a fix for them.

Money pits can suck, unless there is a worthwhile reward at the end.
