It's reminds me of the 1" bore flint lock era amusette (wall gun) that had a two wheel cart for transport. When do we adopt the WW I single barrel 20 mm Oerlikon to do the same?

There were attempts in WW II by Soviets to use their anti-tank rifles as sniper rifles. Zaitsev tried it but said that the ammunition (minute of panzer) was not accurate enough. There was at least one hit though (that I'm aware of).
 
I can only imagine the recoil, that 55lbs is going to be nice to soak some of that up.

Other comment I can make what was old is new again, anti tank rifles. Comes a time when 5 figures to take out a tank gets expensive, and I guess there is a time when it gets expensive even when others are paying the bill for them.

well we know the case length is 4.49 inches so we can make some educated guesses but yeah don’t really know
 
A few years ago a friend of mine bought a flint lock "Over the Hill Gun" It was made by a PA smith who got tired of hearing stories of how accurate other smiths' rifles were.
It had an 8' bbl and We needed a step ladder to load it. It was around .69 cal. and I hit the bullseye at 100 yards.

It will work on bears. Them wild boar hogs in Germany might be another story all together though. I would not try taking a frontal head shot on those wild boars. I've seen them ram/head butt armored personnel carriers before.

Back on topic. Those Ukrainian rifles remind me a lot of the WWII anti tank rifles like the British Boys rifle or the Lahti L-39 20mm anti tank rifle.

And yes the extra weight helps with the recoil. You still want a very good muzzle break on them though.

I don't recall the movie (maybe Walk in the Sun")the tank guys were complaining about only having 3" of armor. one of the grunts said see ho much this t shirt will stop!
 
What is old is new again. This harks back to the pre-WW2 antitank rifles, such as the Boys. The Germans and the Soviets had them as well.
 
I mean, when you're losing and desperate, you're open to all sorts of ideas.

As someone who follows Telegram channels for both sides, these are typically being used at shorter ranges against trucks in leu of heavier and less reliable weapons. Though if an APC shows up, they'll sometimes try. Though even an APC is nowhere near as easy to knock out as the article is making seem.

Russian tanks have been delivering HE-FRAG from up to 4,000 yards. They're not using thus rifle for the range.

I'm surprised that they didn't get a bunch of M107's. Being smaller and lighter, plus semi auto, you could get off more rounds and then take off.

If they're shooting APC's at 500 yards, the Mk-211 Raufous would take them out easy. Even a couple SLAP rounds to the engine block would do the trick.
 
These rifles won't be very effective against main battle tanks, even the older T72 when it comes to penetrating the armored hull. You would have to shoot the tracks (to break them) and/or get behind and shoot the engines. The US found this out during WWII when the Marine Raiders used the Boys rifle in the pacific theater. The Boys rifle worked okay against the thinly armored Japanese tanks. Army Rangers trained with the Boys rifles while in England but never deployed with them.

I don't even know how anti tank rifles would do against an all steel armored personnel carrier either. It would depend on the armor thickness. Now they would definitely work on anything made with armored aluminum, like most everything the US uses. Yes M113's, M2 Bradley's, and M109 SP howitzers all have aluminum hulls.

50 caliber though the 14.5mm works well against tactical vehicles (wheeled and non armored) along with the anti material role.
