In the next two weeks we should be at the peak of the foliage change. I will be heading north next week to go hiking and enjoy the change of seasons.
Did enjoy a hike today and thought the group will enjoy a few pictures.

The cranberry harvest has begun.

My carry was my pocket shotgun, Bond Arms Rowdy.

Foliage change? Huh? Hopefully I can get to my hiking areas this weekend and get some after photos from Hurricane Ian. We didn't get any big stuff but it's rained quite a bit

The conditions up in RMNP today were just about perfect for viewing Elk and Deer. Overcast and cool, nice Fall colors, just not lit quite right for good photos.

We spent a good amount of time around 25 yards from this guy. He was tired and had broken part of one antler, but was bugling intermittently. There were maybe half a dozen other males chiming in from the forested hillside above us, but we only got glimpses of them.


After spending maybe an hour up in that area, we headed back down the trail and walked right into this lady, only 20-25 feet away.


Then a young gent who didn't care much for us.


Bumped into a family of Mule Deer. Probably didn't really need the binoculars for the picture, but I used them anyway.


For some reason, this area always has animals. Not as many as the golf course usually does, but it doesn't disappoint.




The peaks we're getting a dusting too.




The gun of the day was my 686+, with a 180gr WFN. G33 playing backup.


We saw a bunch more Deer and Elk, due to the favorable conditions and the rutt. No Moose though, but they're probably in slightly wetter terrain. Maybe next weekend.

I hiked to the top of Kineo Mountain today.
I took a video looking East from the summit and West towards Pikes Peak from the false summit.



Before I went to the top of the mountain I hiked out to Loud's Cabin. Every time I do I sit on this same rock and read my Bible for a little bit. I didn't even take this picture today but it's the same pack on the same Rock with the same Glock 19 and the same knife

I took this photo yesterday (10/2) it's standing at the false summit of Kineo Mountain looking Northwest towards Pikes Peak across Bear Creek Cañon.

I'm sorry but that photo just does not do the view Justice. I could see all the way up the Canyon I could see the Aspen starting to change colors. Obviously the photo didn't pick it up but the wind was blowing and it was kind of cold and you could tell fall has come to the mountains.



In keeping with the Firearms theme this is the Glock I always carry. But I chose this picture because I also wanted to show the Safariland GLS holster that I use when I go out hiking.



I'm really surprised this holster actually conceals pretty well. It's also a good holster for hiking because I go out there and I sweat my ass off. I was using my Kramer Leather and I'd come home with leather dye stains all over my pants where I sweated it out.

I also like the fact that it's a locking holster. It's not a retention holster or it's not what I would call a retention holster. But if I roll down the side of a mountain I'm fairly confident that my gun won't go flying with this holster

I just bought one of those holsters for exactly the same reason. Different mounting system but haven't tried it out yet.

I like the paddle holster because I can take it off without unbuckling my belt.

I spent the past weekend in the Idaho woods moto-camping. Sort of. I trailered my KLR 650 into the woods and camped out of my 4Runner. I rode the bike for hours into the woods searching for elk. Unusually sparse sign this year. Not a single elk track or scat in nearly 100 miles of riding logging roads and skid trails.

Beautiful weather and saw some deer sign, but more wolf sign.

My ex's parents have a condo in Naples and my youngest son goes there one to two times a year with them. It was terrible watching places he's been to be destroyed on live tv. It's a vacation place for them and they were stressed. I can't imagine what people who live there full time are going through. For those who can, I'd encourage you to donate whatever you can to one of the reputable charities helping there. In the theme of this thread, I'd headed out to door now to take a hike to the lake down the road from our house.

Yesterday was a spectacularly beautifully day to be out in the woods. The weather was cool but not cold for middle Tennessee. The wild life was going nuts, deer, armadillos, squirrels, turkey and more were all really active. I was just checking game cameras and doing a little relic hunting in the midday and some Armadillo control approaching sunset.


Nothing valuable or old, all iron/steel mostly broken bits and pieces from when the property was log out. The oldest thing we found a couple years ago my wife found a two-man cross cut saw blade, the handles long since rotted away. Yesterdays stuff is all modern.

That evening I did meet three new 300 BO haters...

This was the first of the three. My 9-inch 300 AAC Blackout Pistol with AAC SDN6 suppressor. Love the trigger sticks for this kind of stalking and shooting, long enough to use standing but will fan out enough to use sitting.

After getting my third armadillo it was starting to get dark in the bottoms. Time to head for the truck. I climbed out of the bottom onto the power line right-of-way that crosses the property just after sunset.

This was just a minute or two after sunset, looking west down the the powerlines.

I turned around 180 degrees and being one day before the full moon, the moon was already up.

If you look closely there are at least six deer in the grass feeding at the base of the power tower. The half moon section of field that is brown was just planted last weekend and we have not had any rain yet. Three turkey vultures on the power tower will no doubt feed on my three new 300BO haters in the coming days. The two 300 BO haters from last weekend were picked clean already.

Yesterday was a good day.

There’s a skunk ten feet from me. I was walking with the wind just after this picture when I heard the scuffling. I was running like it as soon as the scent hit me!

Just a quick walk the other night. I don’t sleep much. If a human sleeps six hours a night, instead of eight, they only waste a quarter of their life sleeping it away, instead of a third.

Underwater in work, I haven’t gotten out for real recreation in months. I have five yards of concrete at my house to fit in the workweek as well. We used to have twenty men when the Boss was alive. I am the last one left and we still pulled in over a million and a half last year.
This guy must not have heard me coming. I found him a cricket and sent him off to get big and venomous.


I still didn’t get to go for real ride, but Mini and I went to Paris on a jaunt.
Found these walking back to the Linear Park. Hundreds of tiny little pretties. A whole lawn awash in poison!

I spend any scant minutes out back, growing my own volcano. ,finding slug breakfasts , and taking in some fresh air.


All with my trusty, and getting rusty, P-32.
She’s in my robe pocket now, as I wait for the little bear to get out of the shower.
I like when the little fuzzies of lint catch fire and float down in front of me. Always works, no matter what grit I find myself in. Digging a concrete truck out of my driveway perhaps…

That's a really good way to describe that knife. But I will add that unlike a G19, most people will not find it "blocky" or pointing at the "wrong" angle.

I did a full day of woods-walking here in Middle TN yesterday. Everything was out and about, including armadillos in the daylight. Spent about 4 hours in the woods, and shot 5 “war possums”. Used a Ruger Mark IV Hunter on some, and a Colt King Cobra on some. Just shooting 38’s, but they were far more effective than the little 22 mini-mags from the Ruger (not a surprise). But with the Mark IV I can put rounds on target really fast, so I was able to hit 2 or 3 times. If nothing else, it was good practice shooting at moving targets.

This weekend is the first since late spring that RMNP has not been employing a timed-entry system to the park. It was a very busy day.

Thankfully, half a mile or more from the parking areas, it really doesn't show.






I openly concealed my go-to G20 in a Safepacker, which grants easy access, but doesn't typically draw any attention at all.

We have had an absolutely gorgeous Autumn! Everything orange and gold, all at once!

And every picture I take pales, in comparison.

It reminds me of when I drove through the Wisconsin Dells. Just beautiful, and I thought, “Wow! This is just like back home!”

Have I mentioned how jealous I am of all you “elevation junkies”?
That is a far view around here. From my home to US-10 is an elevation gain of a whopping 200’, over fifteen miles.
Sometimes my nose bleeds.

I like my P-32, but lately, as the trail users become more scruffy and homeless looking, because of the new shelter, I’ve been thinking of a more capable pistol. But I like the capacity for something that fits my back pocket.

I’d rather they just stay on the trail and out of my yard. It’s dangerous in here…

The snow will come and soon clean things up, a winter jacket will cover a 1911, and all will be cold and right with the world.

We need to start a thread on pack bibles.

We are well into harvest, but nowhere near the end.
Keep sending pics of hunting and outdoor adventures to keep me sane. As long as I'm in this business , I'll probably never get to do a elk hunt....

Here's a picture of my days work..
I melted a wiring harness that started a smoldering fire. After 40 minutes of searching we finally found the source. The harness is atop the transmission in the most inaccessible part of the machine.
Two fire extinguishers and two buckets of water from the neighbors house we finally called it "out".
I had my finger on 911 three times ready to dial the FD. As a member of our local volunteer FD, it would be really embarrassing to have a machine like this go up in smoke.

Always call as soon as possible for the fireman's sake and for the sake of your interests.

As @Demi-human mentioned Wisconsin is getting full of fall foliage colors.
I went for a drive this morning to Rib Mountain enjoyed the drive.


Nothing like walking out of the Kwik Trip with a cup of coffee and sandwich to this.


My carry was my 637.


As Demi mentioned if you are in the Wisconsin Dells area in the fall take a boat ride on the Wisconsin River. You will love it.

Glad you were able to get the fire out. A couple years ago I was working a switchyard job in the middle of a corn field and for several weeks I drove by the burnt out shell of a newer John Deere combine. It was a constant reminder of how fast and violently metal burns
