Dodge City double rig

Nice approximation of the original one-piece
designs so popular in the 19th Century. The
sewn on front loop allows for a stiffer leather
no doubt.

A double rig like that is in the neighborhood of $480 plus tax and shipping. Right now I'm having a hard time getting good hides and have had to pause my custom orders.

I actually don't. Most of my leather is from the last 20yrs or so. I have several pieces from Chuck Burrows, a couple from Will Ghormley and Rick Bachmann and a bunch from El Paso Saddlery.

Perhaps one of the most interesting 19th
Century holsters and made in the last one
is the so-called Texas Jock Strap.

The wonderful Purdy Gear made such a rig.

And very notable, movie star Gary Cooper
wore one in such films as Along Came Jones,
Vera Cruz, High Noon and Man of the West.
This holster was coupled with a plain no bullet
loops belt which he wore through many Westerns.

Very sensible rig as a townie could be well
armed with his Colt and 6 or 8 spare rounds
in a vest pocket, actually easier to get at
and use if a reload ever was needed
which was doubtful to never.
 
The only vintage holster I have is a floral carved George Lawrence Texas Jockstrap. I need a picture of it.
 
Craig, if you find a source for good hides I'd be interested in one of your Dodge City holsters for a USFA 4-3/4" single action. Send me a PM if such a thing is possible down the road.

I'll have to double check Ghormley's pattern pack to see if they go that short on that pattern. It 'may' have to be made for a 5.5".

The S&W's make for some of the best looking holsters possible.
