New York hunters

I miss hunting central NY. Have a friend with 300+ acres down near Cincinnatus but haven't been there since moving to TX.

In my opinion, it really is an under appreciated state when it come to hunting.

My brother had a ear doctor's appointment so I had him drop me off at a Lourdes walk in clinic down in Binghamton.
I have been coughing a little for a couple of weeks and my lungs felt like they were getting full so they checked that out along with the lyme deciese. They gave me antibiotics for both issues. Should start to feel better here shortly.
Putting a full day in out in the woods was getting to be a little much.

Good on you for going! Make sure you finish the antibiotics, don't quit when you start to feel better.

Hard to like that post troy. When are you coming up, got Saturday off to hunt but have to work Friday, oh well gotta eat.

Yes it's been a while. Going out with pat in the am can't stay out too long cause I've got to take my crew to my daughter's place for Thanksgiving dinner.

Tried to go to the range on Saturday, because I left the woods early, to zero my 3 mausers, but alas it was closed for the weekend and Thanksgiving day. The one day I got out of work early enough go go zero these rifles, I spent it at dmv and driving the newly registered car for emissions I section, by the time I was done it was too late to shoot.

Tomorrow morning we will be putting on a drive from the hunting cabin down to the low road if you guys want to hook up. Call me.

I did the mile walk with Ed from the cabin down to the lower log road. We seen a fairly fresh set of bear track and lots of deer sign. We played cards and drank a ton of beer last night.
Today we seen close to thirty deer. Mel took to long getting onto a nice big mature doe. Tomorrow Ed and Mel are going to Philadelphia to get the Liberty Bell and a few other sights in that area. They will spend the night in Philly then Sunday morning they will drive on up to New Jersy so they can do the Statue of liberty.
They will be back to the camp Sunday afternoon so we'll play cards again and have more beers.
Tomorrow morning is Pennsylvanias regular gun deer season. I will be hunting down there tomorrow and again on Sunday.
We both have buck tags and two doe tags for Pennsylvania.


Ed got a small deer on the first day.
Then Mel shot a deer then shorty afterwards Ed shot a small racked 8 point. The next day a shot a decent size doe.

Legion. Fly back and enjoy the hunting. Cincinnatus is a good area. I generally buy my round trip airline tickets for right around $325 to $350.
The non-resident hunting license is just under $102 and you can get multiple doe tags for that area for just $10.

I wouldn't miss hunting here for anything.

@Highland Lofts, unfortunately my work schedule doesn't jibe well with hunting season at this point. I plan to get back up there when I retire. I have a lifetime sportsman's license, so I'm good to hunt and fish any season that's open when I visit. NY still sends me my tags every year.

Jim shot a nice spike buck this afternoon.
Tomorrow we will go have breakfast at the Greene Rod and Gun Club then go from there.
I could of shot two nice does today.
Got to leave seed for next year.

You should look into the January hunt in ithica. It's a partnership with Cornell and the DEC. Might fit your schedule better.

It snowed here last night was intending to go out and hunt yhe final day of gun season, but couldn't. I woke up at 4:00 am before my alarm went off with severe shoulder pain such that my arm wouldn't move much. Went back to bed and woke up at 5:30 still in pain. Finally got out of bed at 9:30, by noon I was able to move the arm but didn't feel strong enough to carry my rifle in the woods. Any way this is the first year I've been skunked during regular season in 10 years. Looking forward to muzzle loader seadon.and my first with the new inline.

Ok sounds good

Well my time in Upstate New York is coming to a close. I head back to Washington State tomorrow. Our little hunting party did good this year. We harvested ten deer. We will make plans for next year here shortly.
I have some great memories from this year.
We gave a lot of venison away this year.
My most favorite memory is Jim's spike buck. I was with him when he shot it.
He shot it with my 350 Legend.
Hit it just behind the left front shoulder.
The bullet was inside the hide just inside the skin in the neck on the right side between the shoulder and the head.
It did a 180 and rolled over upon its back with it's legs pointing up.

Lots of dead in its tracks deer. A few that needed to be tracked.
Lost one nice lung shot deer.
My friend friend lung shot a small racked 8 point that we tracked 780 yards.
Thank God we had a little snow to track it.
If we had snow on my doe I shot we would of harvested it after I shot it. Ship happens.
