Star PD - New in Box

I have an old, unfired Star PD .45, new in the original green plast box with all paperwork, mag, and tools. It's the older blue adjustable sight wood grip model.

I'm thinking of selling it but I have no clue as to value. Anyone got an idea?

Last year's Standard Catalog of Firearms (Supica) lists the Star PD NIB at $400. The last edition of Fjestad's Blue Book (not current) that I have shows it at the same, 400, but add $20 for the Starvel (nickle) finish, and add 20% for the 30M rear sight. Of course, the last one I saw at a gun show (not in the box and not unfired), guy was asking $600, and he got it. Pretty sure you could ask for, and get, at least $500.

The market was flooded with these a year or two ago and I've seen then go for as low as $300. They have seemed to dry up though and in my area $400-$500 seems to be about right.

I don't own one or necessarily want one, but if I had one NIB, I'm not sure $500 would buy it.

I have a PD as you describe except I have three mags and it has been shot about a hundred times. Beautiful gun. $500 would not buy it.

The gun is as it came off the line. Frame & all parts still blue, no nicks scraches rust or other flaws. Still in Star plastic bag inside green plastic box. 3 mags, one new that came w/gun, a couple spare buffs. Actually frame is black anodozing on Al alloy frame.

$500 will not buy it, probably keep it. I’m a big PD .45 fan, own(ed) several over the years.

Stock up on buffers if you decide to shoot it a lot. Without a buffer or with a worn out buffer, the slide will beat the aluminum frame. I've seen a few Star PD's with cracked frames due to the owners not replacing the buffers on a regular basis.

I owned a PD many decades ago when they were selling new for $375. It was so new that it was hard to find a holster for it...way before they days of the internet.

A couple of officers on my department carried them as off-duty guns as we carried 1911s on-duty. Mine was very reliable and accurate with Speer's "Flying Ashtray" 200gr JHP. It felt slick in my hand due to the smooth backstrap and the unfinished wood grip panels had a tendency to pick up stains...a set of wrap around Pachmayr grips took care of that. A couple of incidents on the street with multiple suspects convinced me that I needed more than 6 rounds in a mag. I've always regretted selling that PD for a SIG 228
