The SRH has become my favorite hunting revolver platform. I have them in .44Mag, .454 and .480.

The .44 is my most accurate revolver and has become the favorite.

Took this nice fallow buck with the .480 and a 355gr WFN at 1400fps.

Corsican with the same load.

Oddly enough, I haven't taken anything under 1800lbs with the .44 version. This was my first real world test of the 355gr Beartooth WLN at 1250fps. I was going to use the .480 but decided to order the .44 only weeks before the trip. Wearing the too-tall Ruger rings and the factory rubber Hogues.

The Grizzly 300gr@1450fps Punch load took care of this water buffalo.

While the SRH was with the gripmaker, I hunted with the Dan Wesson .44Mag in 2019. Then I sent it home with Jack to become a switch-caliber .45Colt.

That year I used the 240gr Federal Fusion factory load on both blackbuck.....

......and a Corsican/mouflon hybrid.

Have yet to blood the FA .454.

I was going to blood the engraved .500JRH when COVID hit.

The .44 was used on a lot of deer and hogs before Jack did the final remodel. This picture was taken right before I went out and popped two hogs with a 240gr SWC at 1100fps at a place in South Carolina in 2006. Back then I never took hunting pictures of myself.

I carried this 1991 Colt Anaconda this past deer season.
In a generic shoulder holster under my partially un-zipped coat.

The load was a 180 grain XTP over 24 grains of 2400.

Im carrying a new anaconda this year....if i get to go. It's sad, I hunt many acres of my own backyard....and its almost a month into rifle season and ive not been in the woods. How people make time to drive miles away to hunt is beyond me.

Granted ive never been much of a hard-core hunter.

After my 44 redhawk then Blackhawk hunting (and some Glock 20 and colt delta 10mm) I knew I was a pro and needed more range than the puny 44.

Actually I was at the coast and bored to death so I bought me a guns and ammo or one of the gun mags and read about the super duper new round that was good to 250 with no hold over. Soon as I got home I told my gun store to get me a 460 XVR.

Killed several deer with it. It's rifle accurate and recoil is actually mild. Range is excellent. UNFORTUNATELY the noise is incredible. I stalk and hunt. Because of that wearing plugs or muffs while walking wasn't an option. And deer rarely pause when you ask them to so you can let your plugs expand. Electronic automatic muffs were in their infancy and non directional. Couldn't tell how far the deer was or what direction he was moving.... or if he was a deer 200 yards off or a squirrel or bear 5 yards off. so I shelved that and kept looking for my Goldie locks handgun.

I’ve hunted with this a couple years now, though I haven’t been able to connect. Last year admittedly I didn’t hunt much. This year about a week, so not extensive. I did bump some does a time or two but didn’t have a clean shot. Next year!
I have a 44 Spl RBH, 7.5”. Accurate and hits with plenty of authority for medium sized game. I also have a SBH Hunter, but I shoot the 44Spl better.

I had a 4 5/8” super Blackhawk just before I got the 44 special one I have now. I just don’t care for the look of the unfluted cylinder, so I ended up trading of sorts. Had them both a short time together for comparison. I rarely shot magnums anyways. I did a few times, but I didn’t care for them. So I decided tog eat something a little different.

I purchased this S&W 69 44mag with a 4.2" barrel in September so I could hunt with it, but I didn't this season. The size of the gun makes it more of a 44 special shooter with limited magnums. I wish S&W would make a L frame 41mag it would be a very nice addition!!!

When Ohio first allowed handgun hunting, I used a S&W Model 29-2 with a 6 1/2” barrel. My buddy was hunting with a Model P in 45 Colt. With similar hits, his game was dropping faster. I switched to a S&W Model 25-5,

The load was a 454424 cast 20/1 over a stiff dose of Unique to get me very close to 950 FPS. It worked well.

Since Ohio required a minimum 5” barrel, I also used this Italian Model P, but with the 45 long Colt cylinder installed,

The same 454424 but loaded over a full case of black powder proofed a formidable load and is similar to what I would use today.

too bad buffalobore, or underwood, doesn't make a lite 300 grain lbt bullet load for that gun. i made up a 300 grain bullet load @ 600 fps that will penetrate ten gallon water jugs. that load should tame the little gun recoil a bit.

I said limited magnums. I have been shooting a few HSM cowboy loads 200 grain swc advertised at 925 fps. Really similar to a lot of 44 special loads.
