Almost 18 years on this forum...

Wow...I never expected this thread to generate this much, or this quality, of discussion... this is awesome.

On TFL, I'm a member, and can still log in and post there... and have, recently.

This place though...it's something else... I've had great discussions here...I often think back to a member called, "Shawnee"... he enjoyed espousing the virtues of the 243 Winchester... never really my "favorite" round, but a darn good one...I didn't always agree with him, but I did enjoy his antics.

I have no idea whatever became of Shawnee... not everyone enjoyed his posts like I did, lol... it's just a fond memory of some good caliber debates of years long past.

It's late, I've had a few drinks, I gotta work tomorrow... so good night all.

Again, the discussion this generated is great!

I’m not sure of my first forum, maybe recguns 30 years ago (was really a pre-forum), but like many, I frequent other forums from time to time (24HCF comes to mind). Lurked here for years before finally registering.

Always found the people, their behavior, responses and the posts to be more to my liking than anywhere else.

Keep up the good work, y’all. (lifts bourbon drink)

Well well well, another Usenet veteran. Rec.guns was great before the 1993 "September that never ended", as were many rec., comp., alt. and talk. -groups in the 80's and 90's, well before web-based discussion forums took over.

I still have a newsreader installed on my computer but haven't started it in several months now. Too bad that the newsgroups are not what they used to be.

Wow, had to go look, thirteen years, now. Does not feel that long.
Same here... had to check my profile. Been here about as long as Walk. Best forum on the web IMO, and some truly kind and knowledgeable people inhabit these environs. I ask questions here before I google or check any other sources because I actually trust the info I get here. LOL

I wasn't big into usenet but I was on several "mailing lists" where they'd collate emails for particular subjects and either send you all of them or collect them and send one big one a day. Mostly for motorcycle stuff in my case. BMW Airheads, Kawasaki GPz1100 mailing list, etc.

Mailing lists were useful at one point, I subscribed to a few, VetteNet among others, but the problem was that in one point they became a favorite tool for pranks. Flooding unwitting victims' mailboxes with ten thousand emails a day. Every day.

I lurked here for a couple years as a non member. Then became a member back in like 2012 as Glockguy or some such similar name, logged off, forgot password and login info and was away for a spell and then came back as DustyGmt in 2016. I have spent around a decade or shade beyond using the forum in one way or another.

One of the reasons was because when I was starting out and using the internet to plug in questions or searching for info about guns, alot of the searches brought me to threads on this forum (google is good for something) and I really enjoyed the discussions and members seemed to know their stuff without alot of the puffy chest guys and other nonsense...

Congrats on almost two decades of participation here Ridgerunner ;)
Same here. Google brought me here over and over again. There wasn't the vulgarity and personal attacks that are prevalent on other sites.
RCMODEL was the one that I always looked forward to getting answers from.

19 years for me in a few months. I lurked for about a year before I signed up, so about 2 decades on THR. Hard to believe how long it's been, and how young I used to be when I joined. I've learned so much over the years and have had countless hours of joy and entertainment from this place. I sure do miss some of the old timers that have gone on before us. I've enjoyed seeing some familiar names in this thread also.

Yeap it's been a long time since I joined. No regrets it is my only place for answers on firearms. We had and still have great shooters, reloaders and very talented technical inclined members who will go the extra mile to help others.
Also, I'm very grateful for all vocational writers who express their thoughts here from safety topics to history of firearms.
Thank you, all members and moderators.
