Many years ago I missed out on buying a Beretta 84F. They felt great in the hand and just looked like a cool gun to me.

I have been looking for one every since, but never seemed to be in the right place at the right time. Low and behold Beretta does this:

I could do without the rail on the bottom, but can't wait to see one of these in person. I even have some 84 magazines I bought many years ago. I am not sure they will fit, but maybe....It looks like it might be an interesting year for new guns.

Not using the Series 80 magazines is a somewhat significant drawback for me, because I already have them in the system. If you're starting anew, should be no problem, just don't buy Cheetah mags at MagShack.

I would pass on it, mostly because I don't want to buy mags when I have like 7 or 8 13 round 84/Browning BDA 380 mags already, and I don't see how why the Vertec grip would improve anything. The original is pretty great, as is the original 92 grip design. I greatly prefer the grip on my 92FS over my friend's 92 with the Vertec grip.

I like it. About the same price as what used ones can go for. Though I honestly wish it wasn't straight blowback. I have a Browning BDA, and that's super stiff to rack. Easier way is the cock the hammer than rack the slide. And not a fan of the thick grip, the thinner Vertec setup should fix that

Its ugly as sin but I guess thats what sells these days.
I think one reason some folks buy (and carry) certain guns is because they are sleek, even elegant. Logical? Maybe not, theres no objectively quantifiable reason to carry a PPK- but people still do.
Maybe Walther is missing a bet by not introducing a double stack, railed, optics ready PP series......
:fire:

WOW, never saw that coming! Since it looks like it's an all metal gun it's rather pricey with an MSRP of $799. I actually don't mind the rails so much as I use to keep my Model 84 around as my HD gun. And the Vertec grip is a lot easier for people like me with smaller hands to get a decent and comfortable grip on it.

Interesting. Got rid of the fat grip, added a rail for a light, and the slide has red dot mounting capability.

Looks like a nice modern adaptation of an old school DA/SA metal framed pistol.

The Beretta 84/Browning BDA was a pistol I wanted when I was young...and couldn't afford.
A couple years ago, a large number showed up surplus from Israel, at bargain prices.
I picked one up, really without any serious use envisioned... Just wanted to try one out.
Well, I soon learned it is a fantastic pistol, seemingly made to fit my hand perfectly.
Utterly reliable. More accurate than a 380 has a right to be. Easily carried.
So, even though I have more powerful CCW pistols, the Beretta 84F gets a lot of carry.
This new version looks good to me, except I don't like the frame pic rail. I'd like to try the Vertech grip to see how it feels.
But, $800... PXL_20230112_182756947.jpg

Sig, are you taking notice?
I've often thought SIG should set up an entire division to only produce TDA guns. They don't have to do Diamond Plate or any of the other odd-ball stuff, just make a solid DA/SA P220/P225/P226/P229/P239, with some quality control.

At least Sig will have a nice press release about it. If it weren't for this thread I'd never know. In fact a few months ago Beretta posted on their Facebook about some new 92 fusion dlc or something. Have not see anything since and nothing on their site about it

Remember, the SHOT Show is this week. Expect to see a whole bunch of advertising once they introduce their new pistols at the SHOT Show.

It was the single action 92XI https://www.beretta.com/en-us/92xi-sao/

It was inadvertently put on the website too early. Somebody caught the error and took it off. As you can see, it is back up. Another gun to be introduced at the SHOT Show.

Edit to add: Oh, yeah, the 92XI sibling, the Launch Edition https://www.beretta.com/en-us/92xi-sao-launch-edition/

It was this actually, but we're getting side tracked. Maybe someone can start a new thread about new Beretta this year

The price will probably drop pretty quickly once it's out on the market. I paid almost that much for my 84 used (but not a surplus gun) not too long ago. And they'll be competing against their own red-headed step-child, the Tisas Fatih 13, which is just a copy of the 84BB, for about half that price. That gun has a much narrower grip by the way, you might want to check one out if you haven't. I had one of the Tisas's for a time, but sold it because it doesn't have a decocker, and I had the hammer slip from my old arthritic fingers once when lowering the hammer. No discharge, but I decided to stick with the 84F and the decocker. The Tisas was a great shooter though, as all the Tisas's I've handled have been.

Edited to add: Found an old picture of the Fatih 13.

That M92XI and 80X reminds me of my college girlfriend.
Flat butt and flat chest.....
Nah.... I’ll stick with my M81 .32acp. or 85 .380 (single stack).
Both bought recently and together less than new 80X.

I'd like to see one without a rail.
Could you elaborate a little bit? I see this sentiment expressed in regards the 80X, but I could never understand just what is going on. Some of the pocket guns have the same standard rail. Hellcat is an example of that. The edges of the rail are sharp, but it's always in the holster, so it's not contacting your body, right...? You aren't carrying a gun in your pocket without a holster... are you?

I think there is a difference between the rail on a metal framed gun and the rail on a polymer framed gun. The metal frame typically has sharper corners than the rails on polymer framed guns and often the rail seems more prominent on the metal framed guns compared to the polymer framed guns.

Here is Eric Stern describing the 92X models at the 2020 SHOT Show. At about the 6:07 mark he talks about the 92X Compact without rail, and why he likes it.
