Beretta 80X Cheetah

I hope this is a nudge to get the pendulum swinging back toward the DA/SA hammer fired direction...

Same here! Choices in new guns for DA/SA are near non-existent. Although, I doubt seriously that I'll be buying one of these. I just don't see it as a replacement for my Springfield Armory XD-E (which, sadly, is now out of production.)

The three draw backs I find are: the grip, the caliber, and the price. I really like the 92FS grip. I never understood all the hate it gets. In today's ammo market, I really do not want to add yet another caliber to own, buy, and/or reload-especially 380ACP, which is higher cost than 9mm. I'll give up 4 rounds of capacity over my XD-E. And at $800? Maybe if I were just buying my first ever EDC/CCW gun, and I didn't already own any other gun in 9mm. I would be more inclined to buy an 84 in 9mm though, if it were more competitively priced. (around $600 or so-my XD-E was $500, and I realize you have to pay something for the Beretta name)

Sadly, if this doesn't sell well (for the aforementioned reasons) it will send a message to manufacturers not to make new DA/SA guns.

You're comparing a metal framed gun to a polymer framed gun.

How about a Beretta PX4 Compact https://www.beretta.com/en-us/px4-storm-compact/

I'm very interested. The Cheetah is my favorite carry gun. I have several.

As for the 80X, Thinner grip panels, yes, Vertec grip, no.

I NEED the Vertec grip on a 92 because my hands are a little small for the standard grip. I have a 92X.

But the Cheetah grip was fine just the way it was.

I'm very interested in the optic mount and dovetailed front sight that can now be changed. It will need tall sights to be able to see them through the optic.

I'll buy one.

WOW, never saw that coming! Since it looks like it's an all metal gun it's rather pricey with an MSRP of $799. I actually don't mind the rails so much as I use to keep my Model 84 around as my HD gun. And the Vertec grip is a lot easier for people like me with smaller hands to get a decent and comfortable grip on it.

The Beretta 84/Browning BDA was a pistol I wanted when I was young...and couldn't afford.
A couple years ago, a large number showed up surplus from Israel, at bargain prices.
I picked one up, really without any serious use envisioned... Just wanted to try one out.
Well, I soon learned it is a fantastic pistol, seemingly made to fit my hand perfectly.
Utterly reliable. More accurate than a 380 has a right to be. Easily carried.
So, even though I have more powerful CCW pistols, the Beretta 84F gets a lot of carry.
This new version looks good to me, except I don't like the frame pic rail. I'd like to try the Vertech grip to see how it feels.
But, $800...

In my opinion they should have taken the opportunity to redesign it to be a locked breach pistol like a mini model 92, but keep the model 80 external dimensions, and make it available in 9mm and 380. In the year 2023 an $800 blowback 380 is frankly absurd to me.

Name brand metal frame guns certainly go for mo' money these days. S&W is but one example.

Poly frame $629.00 - https://www.smith-wesson.com/product/m-p-9-m2.0

Metal frame $899.00 - https://www.smith-wesson.com/product/m-p-9-m2.0-metal

And Beretta gives you an old school DA/SA hammer fired gun. Not some easier to produce striker gun.

I’d be willing to pay name brand metal frame gun price if it were a locked breech 9mm. Being a blowback 380 though I’d be hard pressed to find the value compared to a bersa thunder plus that is less than half as expensive.

The Beretta may be a blowback, but the barrel comes out like a locked breech gun. Not to mention that I own a Bersa and a Cheetah and while both are good guns, the Beretta is in a completely different league in construction, fit, and finish.

.380 is an impotent cartridge not capable of serious self defense usages.

9mm is the bare minimum acceptable, and this is a huge gun for a pipsqueak cartridge and could easily be chambered in 9 Para.

I don’t get the appeal of this tarted up oversized mouse gun at all.

Clearly, .380 ACP micro-compact or compact sized pistols aren't for you.

The Cheetah series has been in production for nearly 50 years. This is merely a continuation of that lineage, and apparently some folks still want .380 pistols considering some of the newer offerings out there. I'd guess Beretta still wants a piece of the .380 pie.

I've owned both. This is true.

I sold my single and double stack Bersa .380's.

They aren't bad guns. The Beretta's are just better.

Old fella attacked by a big, tough guy in a movie theater shot him once with a .380. The offender stopped attacking & died.

Recently, a guy was getting beaten around by several other guys outside of a bar in Old St. Augustine, FL. He hit the main attacker with several shots. The attack ceased and the man shot died.

There are lots more examples. These were just off the top of my head.

Service pistol cartridges exist on a narrow part of the "stopping power" spectrum. From "terrible" to "meh". They can all work for you and they can all fail you. Shoot well.

The 80X sounds interesting. I’d be interested if it uses my 84 magazines.

Maybe that has been answered already and I missed it.

I like the 80 series pistols. I have an 84, 84F, 85, and 81.

According to the TFBTv video it doesn't. Something they revised the magazines to work better with hollow points

If the thumb safety is now a decocker, wouldn’t a G type variant make more sense?

Exactly. I wonder if a conversion kit will be made available such as on the B92 series?

I do not like the “80X” logo on the grips, very stupid looking. “GRIP ZONE” vibes. Same for the huge emblazoned “80X” on the slide.
