Ruger Security Six 357mag

A Ruger Security Six was the very first handgun I bought back in the late 1970's. Mine was blued. Thanks for the picture and the memory.

As said before, great revolvers.

I had 2 four inch stainless but gave one to my sister for HD.

Down to one, a 2 3/4" blued second model. Last of six. Kids and relatives keep talking me out of these great workhorses. Second most accurate revolver, behind my 686, was a blue 6" Security.

Bought my 6" stainless in 1976, replaced the factory grips with Pachmayrs, the too-heavy factory springs with either Bullseyes of Trappers. Smooth action, 100 % reliable. And accurate. One of my bedside guns.

These seem to be nearly indestructible service revolvers -- enjoy the heck out of yours!

I have always wanted a Security Six, but never have had one. That revolver should outlast your great-grandson, enjoy it .

Regretted trading it for a deer rifle that I didn't need in the 70's.

In the 90's these guns appeared en masse in the used gun market at all the gun stores and gun shows.

I made sure I got TWO to make up for my error two decades before!

Both are low-backs.

A used, but almost unfired, blued .357 Police Service-Six was my 21st B-Day present to myself in 1997- It is far from that condition now. The Ruger DA Six-series are outstanding firearms!

They have something of a cult following (as evidenced in the previous posts). I had one in stainless. 4" barrel. Sold it. Regret it as they're hard to find now. Near as I can tell, the Redhawk is just a heavier/bigger version of the Security Six.

I've owned a couple of them over the years. The first thing I always did was ditch those factory grips for something else, usually Pachmayr's. They were a big deal in those days, as evidenced by your revolver having them. We used to joke "When Ruger went into business he bought one tree for making grips and he was still using it."

I had one exactly like that when my ex and I split up. She claimed it as "her's" and it was, I suppose. I was the Smith and Wesson guy. I tried some years later to buy it from her, but she was too smart for that. That girl always did know a good gun.

That was the only gun I ever had to send back to the factory. It would bind up after 50 rounds or so. Got it back in a couple of weeks with a note that said "adjusted". I assume they meant they had adjusted the B/C gap, it did look rather tight, but I don't really know. Whatever they did fixed the trouble. Never had any more problems.

Years ago a coworker of mine offered to sell me his Security Six for $200. I declined because I really didn’t like the guy. He was shady. Another guy bought it and showed me the box and sales papers that came with it.

That sound you hear is me kicking myself…even now.

It's contemporary rival, the Model 19, is now mostly a "Safe Queen"
while the Security Six continues on as a vigorously used SD and field gun.

Had maybe a half dozen of them during their heyday. Couldn't conceive of the possibility of Ruger not making them any more but should have realized it when the GP100 was introduced.

Wish I held on to at least one of them all those years ago...

The first handgun that I ever purchased was a blue 4" Ruger Security Six (s/n: 150-33573) in Spring'73, a few months after my 21st birthday. Two years later I bought a s/s 2¾" new-frame Security Six (s/n: 151-75701). I found both to be really nice, well-made revolvers.

All this talk of what a great .357 DA revolver the Ruger Security Six is forces me to post my ideal.

Mine is from 1979 4in blued model with large grips I changed out for Sile rubber one. Got it new. I love the old style Ruger's. Have an 83 model Speed Six in SS.
The Six Series we're and still an excellent handgun. They look good, carry good and shoot and shoot and shoot anything. Even more accurate than I am.
Mine are for my boy when I cross over. You'll never be able to wear one out.
