Arrived today, and it's in -wonderful- condition. Mags on order, likely shoot it for the first time next week.

Where did you order the mags from? I ourded one from Numerich for my M44 i got a month ago and the fit of the mag was not great.

Brion,

I ordered mine from here:

http://www.havlinsales.com/22rifle.htm

As I don't have them yet I can't vouch for their fit ... but this place came to me with good references, and everything else I have gotten from them has been top notch.

Oh that thing is just begging for a suppressor. You don't even have to move the front sight back.

I think I might buy one tonight....
How is the trigger guard? I read they might crack easily,
And how is the sling stud in the front set up? I suppose they are like Win 52's series of holes so you can adjust the sling for your position.
And oh, whats the trigger like?
Thanks,

HB

65 year old plastic.... yes, it'll probably be cracked. Buy a new one.

No rail. Single point stud.

And oh, whats the trigger like?

Suckier than you can possibly imagine. Get an india stone, then hone and tune it.

..... and in spite of everything about them that makes them less than ideal as the "perfect" target rifle.... they are also one of the most accurate little rifles you will ever lay eyes or hands on.

Remember.... these were made for a US government contract for use as military primary marksmanship training rifles... not high end comp guns.

Get one (or more) now, while you can.

Best to all,

In case you wondered how it shot ...

... I think it shoots just fine!

50 yards, peep sights (my first time using peeps), on homemade corncob bags, CCI Blazer cheapie ammo. At that distance for me, the X looked like a little dot through the peeps.

About 20 rounds on another target to get the peeps dialed in.

Now, once I get this sucker tapped for a scope ...

Nice. I've had my CMP M44US for about a month now, it always comes with me now to the range :)

The trigger guard was deformed and I just used a heat gun and some zip ties to conform it back to the original state.

I noticed your bolt is nonblued - I guess that's typical, I had some older gentleman at my local range point out that the bolt on mine was blued, I wonder why they did that? *shrug*

Yes..... I've seen lots of the Mossy US-44's and never seen one with a blued bolt. Don't have a clue how you managed to acquire one.

Here is mine.
Tac65 suppressor
Threaded by Tornado Tech and re-parked after the machine work.
Trigger guard is the aluminum one availabe from Brownells

Will be interested in hearing about the magazines.
I have a handfull of magazines that the guy across the street gave me. They are plastic, but they seem to work fine and two of them are 10 rounders.

The two mags I got from:

... are metal, 7 round, and had a removable post in them so you could use 22 shorts. The worked just fine and dandy.

If I could find some 10 round ones, I might just buy a couple.
