Well Folks.

I did it I took the leap of faith and Bought a “High end” 1911 I had played around with some imports and even had a real deal colt but never understood the allure of the 1911. In my mind there was nothing the 1911 could do that a modern design such as Glock, Sig, or Beretta couldn’t do as well if not better and lighter with a better round count.

Well I took delivery of my Wilson CQB that I bought used for what I feel was a great price from George at www.migunslingers.com with 6 months of free layaway to boot (there is your plug thanks again George!) and upon inspection I could not get over all the small things that set this pistol apart from the other 1911s that I have owned the attention to the details and the craftsmanship are amazing. But going back to my beliefs that the pistol couldn’t be as reliable and accurate as the more modern and more widely issues “tactical” pistols of today I thought well it sure is pretty and well made but I bet it is finicky. Well I am here to tell you that this pistol eats anything and shoots tighter than I will ever need a handgun to shoot!!!

The only things that I would change are install an ambidextrous safety (I am a southpaw) and maybe hard chrome it for rust protection the green frame has not grown on me as much as I thought it would.

Anyone has a suggestion as for a CCW holster for this pistol that has worked well for them (I am 6’2 240lbs)?

Again I can’t get over how well this pistol performs it has shattered my 1911 myths I can not say enough good things about it or the person I bought it from.

COngrats on your find.

I use a Milt Sparks #Axiom holster. It is Outside Waist Band
OWB, with belt loops fore and aft - each having double snaps
to secure the loops. THe top snap is directional - it has a notch
that needs alignment but makes the snap more secure - with the
snaps it's removeable w/o having to loosen the belt. It is only
available with an "FBI" cant i.e. muzzle rearward I carry at
about 3:30 strong side (of course )

Another Milt Sparks rig, is the #55BN - original design
by Bruce Nelson. It is a bit more high riding than the
Axiom so the jacket/vest or shirt worn outside the pants
need not be quite as long for Concealed carry. The #55BN
is offered "FBI" cant or the reverse for a cross draw cant.

Inside Waist Band - IWB Milt SParks #VM2 is one of the
most popular IWB holsters.

I also recommend the Milt SParks #IPS mag holder.
It is Inside the waist band but has a loop to secure it on
the belt with a snap for removal. On the body side of
the #IPS the thick leather goes upward far enough so that
it shields the body from having the magazine dig into your
body. The single is much more versatile for positioning
than a double mag pouch - IME.

ANd if you do go the MIlt Sparks route get one of their
Gun Belts - they support a wapon/rig, they work.

D.M Bullard Leather Combat Holster w/ Bodyguard

I have the D.M. Bullard Combat 1911 holster with Bodyguard and I must tell you that it is the most comfortable all day carry outside the belt holster. In the 4 to 4:30 position you almost can forget that it is there. It fits my 1-3/4 (very thick) gun belts perfectly and rides high close to the body. I'm not as tall as you but weight the same (sad, I know). 32679625_scaled_233x336.jpg
Take a look at his offerings (link above); he has the Combat with Bodyguard up on eBay sometimes.

Here are a few pics. Sorry for the quality or lack there of all I have is a cell phone camera

These high end shooters are for ego and ego only as far as I can tell...Comparing the pistols mentioned which are all around 5-6 hundred to the price you paid for your toy is funny. Then you want to change it :uhoh:

Laughable;)

I don't have a Wilson yet, but not because I don't want one. My Baer PIIs in .45 and 9mm are a delight, as is the Brown Exec Target. I do notice a difference between them and my $900 guns. One of my buddies who has and likes a Kimber shoots all of my higher end guns better.

I think people should spend their money on the guns they like. I get the best for the amount of money I can spend. If I made more money, I would sure have the higher end stuff. I could care less what anyone would say about it.

That is a nice Wilson. Shoot it like you stole it!!!

Got to agree, ego, pure ego:D, not to mention conspicuous consumption.:p

I got a velvet Elvis that covers the hole in the trailer wall as well as any over priced Rembrandt could. None of those stuffy old Dutch Masters even thought of having dogs play poker. Laughable.

Nice pistol, shoot it in good health, I know I would enjoy owning it. :) Even if I never fell in love with the green frame.;)

Had you owned one, you would not go back to 6-7 hundred dollar ones. There is a reason they cost more.

Problem is it is a 1911 and always will be, no matter how much it costs, it will still only be that. If it shoots tighter than my 1988 17 L Glock, I would be surprised.:what: The Glock also holds 17, with one in the chamber = 18 rounds, in the 10 ring at the distances I shoot at...;)

Regards.

All "1911 politics" aside, if you're going to buy a tight-fitting, tight-shooting high-end 1911 that needs $200 worth of ammo through it before it runs as intended, you might as well make some poor shmuck buy that ammo, shoot that ammo, then sell you the gun for a discount. :)

Good work.

I am glad you are getting super service from your 17L!

Thanks, yes I am. About 6 months ago I sent it in to have a go through by the company. Came back all slicked up and new parts galore...Shipped to my house. It was gone for about 10 days only cost me the shipping to the location. Talk about good service and warranty.

New trigger on it (still 3.5 lbs) but it was smoother. Hard to beat that kind of company follow up on their product... I have done that with a few that I have and all the same good service.

I sent a slide in and they mentioned I needed to up grade the lower also, already did it was the 17 L, the upper I bought used was a 17 std and sent it in (figuring I'd pay), same results cost to ship to location, rest no cost...

I called them because they had it longer than the 17L, and I was curious how it was going. Told me it was ready and they were shipping that day. Got it the very next day to my house. Georgia to California...

Try that with your 1911s guys.

Regards.

Harley Quinn......this thread started with the OP excited about his Wilson purchase. You seem to want to hijack the thread and talk about your plastic gun.

Why do you feel the need to come on here with, smug, arrogant remarks?

Who could give a damn about your Crock 17L? :barf:

Harley, oh where to start...

First, a quality anything is not a sign of ego, it is a sign of the fact you want the best of the best. I will also add that after having every 1911 from a Norinco to a top of the line Wilson, and Kimbers and such, as well as many customs, the is a difference. And you can feel it and see it's results on paper.

On the second thing you said about your old Glock, I would not go as far to say that thing will outshoot any 1911 but it may shoot as well as some. And for the cap, you can get hi cap 1911s if you need so many rounds to get the job done. Myself, I can take of biddness with the allotted 7~9 rounds possible in a 1911!

You need not badmouth a guys purchase price because you don't "need one" yourself. That is what is laughable about what you said, not the fact he bought a quality piece and wants to do a slight mod for tactical reasons.
