handgun storage in RV

I would put it in a locked handgun container in a closet or storage bin. This way it complies with the USC for transporting a firearm. You are going to have to have this anyway for states where your cc license isn't valid, and WA licenses aren't reciprocated in that many states. Note that "locked" is important since, presumably, your RV doesn't have a compartment separate from the passenger compartment:

You also need to check state laws where you are traveling when you are outside WA - many states have provisions banning concealed weapons in vehicles unless they are transported like in the link above. Check each state you are going through, not just if your license is valid but it's specific handgun laws. I have one of those 'one gun safes' with electronic lock bolted to the floor of my truck. I bought mine specifically for leaving a gun in the unattended vehicle. It's pretty secure [it could be removed with a big hammer or pry bar] and easily accessed by pushing a few buttons.

To stay legal, if you do not have a WA CPL, get one. Without it you cannot legaly leave a gun in your vehicle in Washington State. Get a Utah permit too. Then Oregon, Colorado and California are about the only places in the West you cannot carry. And for the gods sake, do not store ammo in the box with the gun if going into California!

I would definitely think about getting a small safe that can be attached to the frame of the RV. Try to hide it in the back of a false cabinet wall or somehwere no one will look. When traveling down the highway of course you should keep it on your person unless you're traveling through a state that will arrest you for it. One of the most important things to keep in mind when traveling in RVs is to keep all loose objects well secured is case of an accident or rollover where loose objects can suddenly turn into projectiles. Walk through your rig and look at everything and check to make sure it's not going to become loose. Be careful but have fun. Watch out for all the idiots out there.

Like twoclones, I have an electronic safe mounted to the floor of my truck. I used large 'fender' washers on the underside, so someone trying to pry it up will have to take half the floor with them.

When you hit bad concrete your RV is going to rumble and shake in a magnitude 4 earthquake with a few sharp hits coming and going for miles upon miles. Anything loose will come down.

Please dont let your gun and it's container be one of those items.

I used to have been assigned to drive RV's for a company once in a while, I felt that I was driving a house. Tractors with 53 foot trailer no problem but a 50 foot long box? yech. =)

This is correct while driving the RV. In CA, when you park an RV, it becomes a campsite - hence your home - and you can load the handgun for defense.

The more I hear about other states, the more I love Texas.

Put the gun of your choice anywhere you want, as long as it isn't in plain sight - and you stay in-state.

not to belittle anyone, but what's the problem with leaving it in your vehicle just as you would if you didn't have the RV? After all, it may be less of a headache instead of worrying about the possibility of someone breaking into an unattended RV.

If it was me, I would get a small safe with a pushbutton combo lock, mount it as securely as possible to the RV itself in a convenient location such as just behind the driver's seat. Keep the handgun in the safe when moving as a vehicle, keep the handgun loaded and within easy reach when the RV is set up as a residence. Do NOT consent to entry into the RV by law enforcement under any circumstances and just not really worry about it regardless of where I was.

I think the chances of LEO finding the gun in the safe are so small since I would never give consent to search the vehicle, let alone open the safe, that it just wouldn't be worth worrying about unless I was going to cross a border outside the US.

Obviously the above possession of the handgun would not be legal in all states and/or cities, and I am not advocating anyone else break any law, but that is what I would do.

The second action I would take would be to obtain a combination of CCW's that would give me the widest coverage of different states and carry concealed in those states.
