Depending on condition $1000 would not be out of line. They are $1500+ new.

They are also very hard to find in a store...you want one, you're probably looking at ordering one.

You should get some takers.

You know, being a "gun person" is a) not so bad, and b) a boatload of fun. That is a fine rifle you got there. That would be an excellent piece to build a collection around. Unless you are trying to get yourself through college or something, you ought to keep it for yourself, learn how to shoot it, and then pass it along to your decendents. Whomever you would sell it to will be doing that.

I say keep it if you can. Ask some more questions about it here and maybe you will get into it more.

Maybe your father would like you to enjoy it as he did. There are Safety Officers (or Range Officer) at most gun ranges who will help you if you've never shot it before. For the sake of Dear Ol' Dad maybe you should try your hand at some marksmanship.

Seriously, do you HAVE to sell it? If so, get a couple good pics and post it on gunbroker. Follow the rules. Ship only to an FFL.

You can probably do better than $1000 especially if it is an older one with USGI parts.

1 - It was made the first half of 2003
2 - Assessing the value is impossible without knowing it's configuration, it's USGI parts count (if any) and it's condition.

Yeah....I'd *almost* cough up $1,000 on it, except I'm unemployed again.

2003 would probably contain mostly USGI parts, not sure about a barrel, oprod or bolt though. You would want to make sure you dont have a cast SAI bolt (doubt it).

Take some pictures and post them on here, you will have all your questions answered.

Can't really tell anything from those pics, it's a USGI stock can't see if it's birch or walnut. Most every part should have a manufacturer name or initial on it make a list for us of the big parts like bolt, oprod, barrel, trigger assembly, sights etc. Definitely not a USGI flashhider.

Some people just aren't gun people, then again you will never know until you try. I would do a little research, become familiar with the gun, and go fire it. You never know, it could be a hobby you never anticipated. If you end up just not enjoying it, well get rid of it. Just letting you know though that isn't the first gun you just get rid of...its a classic. Also, its better to have a gun and not need it, then need it and not have one!

Like everyone else said, try shooting it first. If you find you dont like it you wouldnt have a hard time selling it on here in the classifieds section. That is a great rifle you have there and they are sought after.

also if you have the time and patience, price it high and bring it down in increments, you'll find the market.

Yeah really need some better pics. Unless your dad beat the crap out of it which it doesn't seem like from the pic, $1000 should be had without problems. You really should keep it though. Those are great guns and will only appreciate in value as long as you don't treat it like crap. What state are you in? Maybe a nice THR member can take you to range and help you get familliar with it and/or be able to give an estimate of value and condition.
