AK pistol, they good? Worth it?

These have 12" barrels. They make excellent "pistols", as the gas system hasn't been buggered with. They also make excellent SBRs (you know, for when you hit it big with a scratch-off )

You should avoid any AK pistols with modified gas systems/pistons, unless you get a good warranty. Even the smallest miscalculation in the builder can make for a frustrating period of ownership.

Where in the world did you find one for $550? That's a fantastic price.

My buddy picked one up in Iraq, it was an absolute pain in the arse of a thing! Scatters lead everywhere except where you want it and deafens you as well

I say this as a SBR-loving, wierd gun-loving freak with a Carbon 15 pistol, multiple Vector V51 SBRs, Uzi, etc. The AK pistol is an extremely niche product.

Good advice there. I built an AK pistol just for fun, and while it is fun, the novelty wears off after a while.

I'd buy a full-sized AK first.

Just my opinion.

Large unwieldy pistols made from what are normally rifle actions are some of the most pointless guns out there IMO. They're too big to CCW (or even open carry) effectively, and their lack of a shoulder stock makes them difficult to shoot accurately. You're also losing a lot of the cartridge's effectiveness with such pistols that are chambered in what are normally rifle cartridges. In short the only real purpose of these guns is if you want a range toy. Everyone would attach a stock to them were it not due to legal issues. Either spend the $200 to SBR it if it's legal where you live and you really want the short barrel or just stay with a title I rifle.

Here's a pic of my Draco. Its perfectly reliable, super fun and just plain cool. Its not very accurate (pie plate at 50 yards is good enough). With the 75rnd drum, its the most cumulativly powerful pistol there is.

You should just buy my AK-47 with a nice folding stock

They're absolutely fantastic for turning money into noise.

I researched buying/building an AK pistol and decided a full size AKM was a much better configuration.

The only reason I would buy an AK pistol is to register it as a SBR. But if I was going to pay for an SBR and put the work into replacing the rear trunnion, I would want to start with an 7 or 8 inch barrel, not the 12-incher that the AK pistols have.

if it comes with the drum , for that price, I would be so all over that!!!!
also, it will function fine, the piston doesn't mind at all. the bad thing about them is; it will make a huge flash in low light, and it will be as loud as anything you have fired.

Also, having just read a prolonged series on the ak 47, one piece of the article dealt with the round, and short bbl capability. In short, it does not lose enough speed or energy, to make it inefective; as a matter of fact, the article went on to say, a sbr ak, still makes a fabulous out to 100m gun, and will do what it is designed to do. I personally would rather have it in 545 , with the expanding gas chamber up front, but thats just me; no over penetration. the 762 out of the sbr, is still going to penetrate.
However, if you can get a hold of some downloaded 160 or 170 grain carts out there, this will also make it a great room clearer, without the over penetration, and then if you can thread the bbl, and put a can on it, well then, you now have a almost quite room sweaper, by comparison.

or just get silver bear hollow points, and keep it by the bed...

one more thing about the tineh ak's, if you have been firing it, and you foget about it for a few seconds, and reach back up to grab it, and are not looking where you are grabbing, and you grab ANY OTHER PART, of that front end other than the handguards........ ssssshhhshhhhshhhhshhsss.... owww!!!!!

I've tried and tried with rifle-pistols and have come to the conclusion that beyond an SBR they are pretty much novelties. They are fun, but I have found that I lose interest quickly. I tried the PLR-16 and the Brugger & Thomet TP-9, and quickly tired of both. The TP-9 was the best of them (but not a rifle caliber) as it was a handy size and a nice balance with the mag in the grip. Otherwise, with something like the Krink, you've got a lot of weight out front. Using a sling can help, but for the vast majority of shooters I'd say go with a regular AK, or one with a folder.

I used mine for a truck gun. Its illegal here to keep a loaded rifle in the vehicle, but a loaded pistol (with conceal carry permit) is ok. Its great to have an AK "handgun" with a 75rnd drum sitting on the seat beside you. When firing, you hold it just like a rifle and pretend you have it shouldered. Its actually quite easy to shoot, noise isnt any worse than a 44mag, recoil is non existant and it makes a great house gun as well.

The Draco pistols are actually sold with stocks and as rifles in Europe. I forget their Romanian military designation but they are actually based off of real military guns, they're not a hatched job. I would tend to think of them less as a rifle and more as a PDW.

Wow, lol. They were there last night. I guess I'm not the only one that saw them and noticed the price.

If I had the money, I would buy one for that price in a heartbeat. No matter how loud or useless it is.
