whitch reflex sight ?

NcStar is junk. I know its going on a 22, but check out the burris fastfire II.

I bought a BSA redot for my 10/22 and its meh, I wish I got either a burris or bushnell

I've had infinitely better luck with cheap tube type red dots than the cheap reflex type.

I have the Simmons multi reticle 30mm tube on my 10/22 and its been great. I like the + reticle dot option the best. My only unsatisfactory tube type have been BEC brand.

The Fastfire at ~$200 is probably the cheapest reflex type you can expect to work I've on my RIA .45 and its held up very well for 1000s of rounds.

I am the proud new owner of a Colt M4. My buddy says I HAVE to get optics. I am gonna use it for home defense and going to the range (100-150 yards).
Any suggestions (detachable carry handle, btw).

Reflex is a bit of a misnomer. All red dot sights are reflex sights, except the true holographic sights (EOTech, Bushnell Holosight, and one Israeli design whose name I can't remember). It's just whether there's a tube or not. I think you'll have better luck with a tube type sight in the under $100 range. I have a Tru-Glo that's been decent. For a bit more money - $150 or so - the Vortex Strikefire is quite good.

If you like iron sights I would just use iron sights for the stated purposes. Optics add cost and weight. If you really want an "optic" I assume you're talking about a red dot type sight. Quality is an Aimpoint or Trijicon; EOTech is nice but seems to be less reliable under really hard use, though it also has some benefits in how it works. All of those are $350-500 depending on model (or more yet for some Aimpoints). If you want to spend less the Vortex Strikefire I noted is quite good for the $150 price, is not junk and has a lifetime warranty. It also should be fairly rugged. I have one of those, an Aimpoint, and an EOTech, btw. I would not go any cheaper on a quality M4 type - I'd go with irons only if that's too much. If you were going to expect to stake your life on the rifle I would look mostly at the Aimpoint and Trijicon.

One consideration. My 10/22 was less than 200 bucks. So, your budget of 100 or less is very reasonable. You could take a chance and pick up some no name junk at a gun show and it might serve your purpose and you save some cash. Or, you might want to shell out for something good and transfer it to different guns as needed and it last you a couple of decades.

Aimpoint. Costs higher than some offerings, but makes up for it.

By the way...the higher cost of the Aimpoint vs. lower priced dots: It seems to cost more in the beginning, but what you will get is exceptional battery life (10,000 hours and up, depending on model). Meaning you can leave it on for HD use and not worry about it. Change the battery once a year (set a reminder on your phone, do it on your b-day, whatever). Aimpoint is the only reddot I will trust. Other reddots? You'll leave it on one day by mistake for a week or two, and it's dead. You'll save the cost difference in batteries alone over the life of the optic.

Can't afford a current gen aimpoint? Buy older used. You won't get the extreme battery life, but you will get reliability. I brought an Aimpoint 5000 for a c-note one day, for example.

i have had aimpoint mounted on my Saiga, cx4 storm, and mp15 and honestly loved it across the board...

The two i hear good things about are Trijicon and Burris. They are both well above $100. Also, leupold came out with one with an etched reticle (no batteries necessary!) but i haven't seen it carried at places that sell Leupold stuff, and haven't heard many reviews.

I have an old 50 or 60mm BSA reddot on one of my 10/22s...it works very well and was under 20 bucks. i think it was discontinued though. There is a 30mm version.

For 20 bucks, i figure it's like buying a girl a drink at a bar..you don't always win....but when you do, it is nice.

Daisy Electronic Mark Sight. A VERY cheap red dot, ($12 new), that actually works very well on my wifes' 10/22. I suppose I could go expensive, and put the Leapers I had on the vz-58 before I got my EOTech...the big advantage with the Leapers is the Daisy uses a piece of plastic with a crosshair on it, and it doesn't transmit light 100%, kinda reflects in sunlight.

HA! I had one of those when I was 12.

And would you believe this one has been on this rifle for over 3 years, and still works great? It doesn't get used much, to be sure, but it is kind of neat.

I would not hesitate to get a Trijicon reflex - but they are $350 and up from what I've seen. They don't need any batteries because the dot is projected by solar fiber optic in daytime and tritium at night.

The Burris gets good reviews but is a Korean made inexpensive dot. IMHO the Vortex is comparable for significantly less money.

I agree that the Leupold gets few reviews. It is really a conventional scope, not a reflex, but it should be bombproof and doesn't need batteries for daylight use. At night it does (illuminated reticle) and I've read that the battery life on that is extremely short, like 10 or 20 hours.

While I have an Aimpoint Micro T1 on my AR (and love it), on a .22 rimfire that is not for defense, I would use one of the M3 clones from Primary Arms. They are very well reviewed on ar15.com and the seller stands by the product. For $ 69.00, how can you go wrong?

I hear the Bushnell Trophy MP dot (the one that kinda looks like an ACOG housing) is pretty decent for the money.

I have a Konus Pro Atomic on my 10/22 and love it. It is small, light and the dot is very well defined

Everyone likes to call the NcStar junk. But they'd be surprised to learn how many 'name' reflex/HWS units are made in the New Century facility in China. LOL. I have been running two $50 NcStar on my AKs for six months, thru classes, hard charging 3-guns and more without a peep. I got them because I don't want to put out the money for a EOTech before I even know if I like a red dot. I wouldn't take them into combat, but if you want to give a reflex sight a try and use them for just plinking or local comps, you can't beat em for $50. The if you like reflex style sights you can save for a Trijcon or EOTech.

I would go with something more along the lines of the Millet SP-1. $69 at Midway, right now.

red dot scopes werent around when I was 12 or when I was in the military. I just got an Ultradot tube red dot, as I am unfamiliar with them, I am still getting used to it. I put it on a brand new Ruger mini 14 tactical ($150 scope). still hard to get used to shooting with one eye open, but this past week I nailed a javelina and a whole bunch of hogs all in the 100-150 yard range. am starting to like it more and more. if I get good with it I will save up for an Aimpoint, but for now the Ultradot makes me very pleased.

I would. No such thing as overkill in glass quality. And, I would probably end up using the Aimpoint on other guns besides the 10/22 in the future.

And, tell me, if the choice was between a $100 new Chinadot and a $100 used Aimpoint 5000, would you still be singing the "I wouldn't put an Aimpoint on a 10/22" song?
