Which Glock to Buy ? G20 or G21

I'd vote for the .45. The platform is pretty mature in both cases, but ammo to feed the .45 is more available and will do anything for your stated purposes that the 10mm will do. Outside of a woods gun, the 10mm advantage is pretty much zero. MAYBE you can get 100 ft-lbs more out of it, but at what cost in muzzle flip and recoil and other factors? Doubletap loads a 185gr .45 that produces 616 ft-lbs. Are you likely to need more than that but NOT need more than 750 ft-lbs (hottest 10mm load). If not, then .45 wins purely for utilitarian reasons unless you just want a 10mm.

I know the .45 cal. is more available universally over the 10 MM.
But the 10 MM is suppose to be more like a Magnum when compared to the .45 cal.. I don't foresee myself hunting feral hogs or protecting myself from grizzlies or cougers.So the concept of the 10 MM for that is not a factor in my decision.
I'll decide on the model depending on what you all write back !

i would not get neither of those guns, dont get me wrong i love glocks but the ones you mention are bulky and triggers suck on them, though decent with a 3.5pd trigger upgrade. I would definitely go with .45 acp simply because its a proven round with excellent stopping power. and since its really not as high pressured as the 10mm much more forgiving, besides 10mm's have a habit of cracking frames/slides and ammo is not as easily obtainable. But if you want a 45 go with a 1911 platform, if you just gotta have those extra 3 rounds in the mag go with a double stack models. Para Ordnance is one of the companies that makes them.

blackjack...............lol a friend has one i do not own a glock and never have but i do shoot my little fat buddys glocks the 21 is a great shooting gun.like i said i don't like them or maybe the way they fit in my hand but i can say it is a very accurate shooting gun.good luck !!
ps. they 10mm ammo is high price stuff hard to find.45acp is a little high but easy to find,if you do not have a 9mm and like to shoot alot thats the way to go g17 or g19 are also nice guns.when i"m thinking of a buy,i always think of how much the ammo is because i want to shoot it alot.2cents

If we have the option of ANY gun in the calibers mentioned, the field gets pretty wide-open, though, right? An HK45 (or the USP) is my preference over a glock; I'm sure sigman probably would prefer a P220 if he wanted something non-glock. And with all due reverence to the cult of the 1911, it's a fantastic design, but it's nearly 100 years old. In terms of the design's ability to shake off abuse and less-than-ideal conditions, it's not the top of the heap anymore. Comparing a modern polymer gun to a 1911 is like comparing a modern 4Runner or Wrangler to a classic or modern ferrari--they may not handle as well, and they may not look as pretty, but they're the ultimate utilitarian machine. They'll ALWAYS work and you can beat them to hell and back without really worrying about it. Same can't really be said of most 1911s. And at this point in my life, I'll take utility over design aesthetics. Just me.

I've got a 21SF and absolutely love it.

I shoot it better than any of my other guns and don't plan on getting rid of it any time soon.

My vote goes for the G20. I bought one (20SF) a couple of weeks ago and it quickly became one of my favorites - after I shot it. The 10mm does what a .45 ACP can do and more. From 135 gr to 230 gr. IMHO, the 10mm rd should get more respect than it does.
Back to the point. If you get a G20 (get a short frame) you can spend $200 and get a .40 S&W and a .357 Sig barrel from Lone Wolf. Uses the same mags, so just drop in the barrel and go. 3 guns for the price of the Glock and $100 per barrel.

i love my glock 19, i also have a 27, 22, and a project 27 frame that i am going to make a dedicated 22 glock pistol out of, IMHO if you want the best of both worlds, power, somewhat resonable ammo and sleek get a glock 23 pistol, the 40 s&w cartridge is basically a 10mm round with a smaller casing. but still a nasty round, I LOVE EM, with the glock 23 witch is the same size as a 19 basically, you get about 14rounds of 40cal! plus on the 40 cal model you can get the 28rd stick mags from glock!!!! like the 32rd G18 pistol has.

No disrespect, but saying "a 40 S&W is basically a 10mm rd with a smaller casing" is leaving out A LOT. That's like saying a .38 Special is basically a .357 Magnum - not even in the same ballpark. They both use a .400" diameter bullet and that's where the comparison ends.

The 10mm is a great round... I love my G20, and carry it in the great outdoors. However, if you are just using it against 2-legged predators, I don't really see the use in getting a 10mm. Honestly, even the .45acp does not really justify its price in todays world. For self defense against humans, I would just get a 9mm or .40 so you can buy up cheap cases of the stuff for practice.

Aside from that, if you plan on spending time in the woods the 10mm is pure awesomeness. Keep in mind that if you buy a Glock 20, a simple barrel swap will make it run .40 SW... you can use your same G20 mags for both. This means $110 barrel = cheap practice.

I'd go .45

Unless you actually want the 10mm to do something the .45 can't, you'd be better off with the .45acp. Cheaper ammo, widely available (relatively).

I like 10mm better and chose it for my every day carry gun, plus I have the option of changing it, relatively easily, to .40 S&W or .357 Sig. Basically I like the power and versatility. However if you're not using it for anything other than a plinker and you don't reload or intend to use it for any kind of defense then go with the .45, it'll treat you well and you'll have a lot less hassle on your hands.

true but its more like the 38+p and 357, and even so not quite the 40cal is a accurate round and packs a good punch for defense, especially with corbon's or other hot loads.

Well, I am prejudiced because I have the 21 & the 30 and I'm itching to have a 10mm. But I vote for the 20. Or 29.

I have the 21 in 10mm and really like it. At 100 yds you really notice the difference between the 10 and the 45. I have a 45 super that is about the same as the 10 mm as far as shooting flat is concerned. You can get a 40 barrel for the 21 and shoot the cheaper ammo also.
