no offense but this was kind of a let down.

I have 1 DW now and have owned 2 others that are gone in trades/sales.

The price increase this year hurts and on top of that they are putting on $7 Rubber grips? Giving CA the Cbob's is a kick in the pants as well... their flagship and they are cutting production and giving them exclusively to CA?

The Gardian looks very nice, and the finish looks awesome. Sadly that's the nicest thing i can say about the new models from that small sneak peek.

CZ USA has shot themselves in the foot.

Witness the demise of yet another fine American brand.

Bob has taken the torch on to Fusion, but what once could be had for $900 will now cost you $1,500.

You have to compare apples to apples here. The CBOB has seen improvements in the last years in fit and attention to detail and the street price has gone from $850 in 2007 to around $1000 for the 2009. In 2010, the internals have been upgraded, and the black "finish" is now not a coating, but will be a treatment very similar to IonBond, but if the reports are to be believed, even tougher. Heinie sights, checkered MSH, upgraded bushing, smoother trigger, forged slide and frame - all of these have combined to make the CBOB replacement, the VBOB, well worth the money if you compare them to other brands. I have two CBOB's and I've got a black VBOB pre ordered. Despite being the most expensive version of the VBOB, it's still $700 cheaper than a Ed Brown Kobra Carry. If the price increases turn you off, I understand. Money is hard to come by. At least make sure the facts are out and are being accurately considered in the price increases. For MY money, DW's are still the best bargain out there for what you get for your $$$'s.
Good luck!

I don't understand what kind of magical beans they are mixing in that coating to justify a $400 price tag for black coating.. Now, ive seen their "Tests" and it does look impressive.. but not $400 impressive.

I'll give the new one's an honest look, i would really like to get that Gardian.. but if the quality doesn't justify the price, then forget it. I know they made new improvments and whatnot but they "Fixed" issues that were never broken to raise the price. Makes no sense to me.

Joe,
Straight from Keith (head guy at DW) - The price increase was coming with or without improvements. It was mandated by CZ. Keith managed to add more value to the line to help offset it somewhat. I don't think ANY company can ask more than for the customer base to approach the product with an open mind and make an informed decision. If it's not for you, then so be it, but I think when you compare what you're getting for the price to some other brands, the 2010 DW lineup will show favorably. In the long run, that's up to each and every potential customer to decide for themselves. If I had to bet a paycheck on it, I'd say the DW will still sell EVERY weapon they produce next year and still be short of demand. I know I'm ordering at least two more myself.
Good luck!

There is just something about the extra 500 bucks. The vbob feels unobtainable whereas the cbob was right in my grasp. I just don't know if I will be able to justify purchasing a 1500 pistol for several years, whether it is "worth it" or not.

I would agree, this is a let down when you consider the large price increase.

Yes indeed, CZ is killing/has killed the dan wesson brand. They dumped the revolvers which were always the dan wesson trademark and now they are pricing themselves out of the 1911 market for what they offer. As a under $1000 gun their 1911's were excellent, but now that they have decided they can't make them for that they lost the greatest advantage they had. Good guns at a reasonable price. As $1500+ dollar guns they have no advantage over the competition. I was a great fan of the old dan wesson's even with their occasional problems but if the new cz/dan wesson can't get their act together and offer what people want for a reasonable price they can go belly up for all I care. I will only support companies that I think deserve support and cz/dan wesson is impressing me less and less with their business and marketing decisions.

I will with hold my final judgment till I can hold one in my hands. I am interested to see how the new coating for the black guns looks, feels and holds up.

I tend to be in the camp that DW is pushing themselves out of their niche. I still think that they will be able to sell the 3500 or so guns that they produce but I think that they are losing more fans then they will gain.

I am sorry but I take everything that the market manager of any company tells me with a grain of salt. Keith is a good guy and I do not think he is lying per say but his number one goal is to spin this in a positive manner which will result in sales. I would not expect him to represent any other point of view.

I agree that they will sell all the pistols they produce but I think at the same time their market presence and their popularity among the avg shooter is going to shrink. Selling every pistol they produce does not mean they are growing in the right way.

Alright!

Another 1911.

High-priced, but less expensive than the already-overpriced 1911's?

I'm sure people will be falling over themselves to open their wallets.

I respectfully disagree. This is a major step up for DW. Why would you pay $1500+ for a DW when you can get a known quantity for less or at the same price.

I paid less than the going price for a 2009 production valor for this....

I think you nailed it right on the head.

When everybody started a thread or talked to a buddy and asked the famous "I have $1,000 what 1911 should I get" Every dan wesson owner, previous owner and possible future owner said "Dan wesson"... "They can't be beat for the money"... "For $1000 you get a gun that rivals $2000 guns".

They had that "Niche" locked down.

I have no doubt they will sell all of their 3,500 planned for '10... I will probably pick one of them up even with the increase, but it will no longer have that feeling of "Damn i got a good deal".

My .02c Im out, not trying to piss and moan but its sad to see CZ screw this up.

Probably so. Frankly I don't care that much if their new models have more expensive sights, a slightly better cosmetic finish etc. I think they would have done a whole lot better by keeping costs at a minimum and spending more money on advertising to increase sales. They needed to spend the money for television adds and take gun rag writers out to try and write about the accuracy and value of their products. They could turn Dan Wesson into a serious competitor again. The aren't doing that.

Most long time Dan wesson fans, while liking cosmetic improvements as much as anybody, have always appreciated the accuracy, functionality, and value for the dollar the dan wesson guns offered more than anything else. Start chipping away at any of those core features of dan wesson and the fan base will be severely compromised. CZ either doesn't care or doesn't understand that and is missing the boat. Who needs another high priced semi-custom 1911 maker? There are plenty of fine guns in that category already if you want to pay for it.
