Would you Buy a Heckler and Koch USP 40 Tactical

Would I?

NO.

It has a high bore axis, a horrid, hard trigger pull and a long mushy reset. But at least, it's over-priced......

Why not just put a threaded barrel on a USPc .40?

It's a much better balanced pistol, smaller in size and effectively can do the same things a tactical version can.

Yes. With the LEM trigger it's one of the best triggers out there. Stupid accurate too. Only I'd do different is get it in 9mm or .45 as I don't like .40 S&W. If the .40 is your cup of tea though, great gun.

I have heard that the USP Expert is a great shooting gun. I personally have not experience shooing one myself though.

I have shot the .45 USP several years ago and thought it was a good gun but to big.

Yes.

The Tactical comes with the very excellent Match Trigger and is a very sweet pistol. I'm not sure what David E is refering to in that regard, ("hard trigger pull and a long mushy reset"). The trigger is crisp, reset is very short, the recoil soft... not much to complain about. A very accurate and reliable pistol. I'd maybe want the .45acp, but .40 works too.

The USP was designed to shoot .40, rather than being a 9mm that was 'scaled up' like most guns. It is one of the better gun platforms to use with .40--the dual recoil springs work very well. Note--the Compact models don't (or didn't) have dual recoil springs when I shot one.

Yes, it has a high bore axis. You won't notice it like you would with an XD, for instance, due to that recoil system.

The Tactical DOES have a nicer trigger than the stock USP. I'd have to agree--out of the box a stock USP DA trigger pull is pretty heinous. They do shoot in nicely, though. After 1000 rounds, it's a whole different ball game, and it just keeps getting better. Before you know it, it goes from 'heinous' to 'marginal'. <g> Again--the Tactical doesn't suffer as much from that.

The Tactical also has the O Ring seal on the barrel, and should prove to be one of the more accurate handguns you've shot. With an outstanding recoil system, designed for the round you're shooting, it will be pleasant to fire. HK has the fastest mag change in the business (use your trigger finger, not your thumb to drop the spent mag).

Yes, if I had the discretionary cash laying around, I'd pick it up if the price was right. Used, it'd need to be $750 or so.

Never, at any price, ever. HK had their chance with me. Now, they'd have to pay me to take their overrated German wondercrap.

The Tactical comes with the very excellent Match Trigger and is a very sweet pistol.

"Very excellent?"

Have you ever shot a USP Tactical?

My USP Tactical 45 has a so-called "match" trigger. Calling it "very something" I'd do. Calling it "very excellent," not so much. The standard trigger pull on my Glock is lighter, less squishy and less gritty, and has a shorter reset. Maybe HK can get away with calling that trigger "match," but if most people tried to pawn that abysmal thing off as "match" they'd be laughed at, and they'd deserve it.

The trigger pull on the USP Tactical may be better than the trigger pull on the standard USPs, but match it is not...not by a long shot...not even close.

MTMilitiaman, when are you putting that "wondercrap" that disgusts yor so up for sale. It's only worth a bit less than that Glock you say... I'll give you $450 and I'll pay shipping.

...and Yes, I think think the match trigger is excellent. Mine is at least.

No.

I will not buy ANY HK handguns for the following reasons:

1. Ergo's do not work well for me.
2. Crappy triggers.
3. HK does not have a good parts support market for modifications.

Companies may BUILD the firearm, but I OWN the firearm and will make it conform to MY preferences. HK does not facilitate this as do other companies / firearm designs.

I like H&K's pistols but I can't justify the price.

For instance, for under $500 I can buy a NIB Taurus PT101, holster, additional magazines, lots of ammo and lots of range time for the same cost as a USP. Exchange the Taurus with any number of other fine semiauto pistols in the price range.

I'd just move up to an HK 45. Skip the .40 caliber altogether. :D

Or go 9mm with the P30.

HK is good stuff and IMHO is worth the difference.

And BTW, I've been shooting and collecting handguns since the mid 1970's.

Good luck OP, hope things work out for you.

I carry a USP 45 Tactical, but I'm not much of a .40 fan.

I'll add my usual disclaimer that there isn't a weapon on this planet that I wouldn't buy, and it's all a matter of priorities from there.

A USP 40 Tactical would be a pretty low priority for me.

I wouldn't, it's an overrated product, my experience with their customer support was abysmal, they're overpriced & actually kind of clunky with weird ergonomics, I also wasn't thrilled with the LEM trigger...
