I just picked up my new Les Baer TRS from my FFL, and my Fusion 1911 kit will be arriving at his storefront within the week. However, he informed me that I have to wait 5 business days between purchases of handguns, or otherwise fill out an ATF form. This is in Texas, and I have a CHL. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Yep. More than one handgun in 5 days kicks off the FFL requirement for a "Multiple Handgun Sale" form.
Being in Texas it also may kick off a visit from the ATF to your FFL, and maybe even to you. They have been doing more investigations in border states lately due to the whole "gun trafficking" into Mexico nonsense.

Certainly news to me. I've never bought two within 5 days of each other before but I know I've cut that pretty close (pretty sure I've bought within 10 days of each other).
Good to know though. I had very much thought about ordering 2 P-64's from AIM - one to keep for myself and the other as a birthday gift for my brother. Guess that might entail some extra paperwork.

It's been that way for decades. I'd advise waiting a week between handgun purchases. I know guys that have been hassled by the feds.

This has been in effect for years. Your FFL holder is required to have signage stating so visible to his customers.
Do I sense an "oops" on either your (for not seeing it) or his (for not posting it) part?
and they don't even care what the caliber is. I purchased two 22lr scorpions at once and it required the extra paperwork and a visit to the ffl from ATF. Strange as you can buy multiple black rifles with no problem but two 22's and you are flagged.

News to me as well. Ive bought multiple guns in CA and TX and ive heard of it before but always thought it was more of a "rumor" like "careful, you'll be put on THE LIST"
in CA you can only buy 1 handgun per month if new but no rule with FTF. I bought 4 guns off 1 guy once the same day in CA and i have bought 3 guns in TX at the same time from a local shop 1 new 2 on consignment.

About 6 months ago I bought 2 handguns on GunBroker from the same dealer and picked them both up at the same time from my FFL Dealer. I live in Florida, have a CCL and I had no additional paperwork, at least not that I was aware of.

No, this is paperwork the dealer has to fill out and send in.
They are not required to tell each affected customer, but are required to have the sign on the wall.

What sign are you referring to?
According to my IOI the only things required to be posted are my actual license and the Youth Handgun Safety Act Poster.
There are no other signs available from the ATF Distribution Center.

Filled out over 2 dozen 4473's in at least 10 shops. While the paperwork is going through I'll tend to read just about everything on the wall. Never seen ANY of them post a sign mentioning a multi-handgun form. Not saying it doesn't exist (quite the contrary - there seems to be enough people aware of it that I'm certain it does), just that no one here has talked about it or posted signage.

Purchased 2 handguns about 6 months ago via different Gunbroker sellers, and they ended up coming into the FFL a couple days apart. He asked me if I wanted to wait a week to pick up the 2nd gun to avoid having to fill out the fed form.
Told him to fill out whatever paperwork he needed, I had nothing to hide. I didn't want to have to make a 2nd trip back out a week later. Never heard anything else about it.

They do the same thing here in Oregon, and I have always chose to wait. Not that I have anything to hide, I just beleive that its bad to bring any attention to your self.

You don't have to fill out anything. The FFL has to do a multiple handgun purchase form and send it in to ATF. This is federal law, the idea being that they can keep tabs on such things as the one non-criminal in a gang buying 30 Lorcin 9mm's at once for his bangin' buddies. I wouldn't worry about it; They're not gonna flag a buyer of a two 4-figure custom 1911's as a trafficker..

Yeah, I figure custom 1911's are not typical gang or Mexican drug cartel fodder. Besides, I'm not planning on selling or otherwise getting rid of either of them. If the ATF shows up at my door I'll just show them the Les Baer and the pile of in-the-white parts that the Fusion will be and that will be that.

I have a customer that has made six purchases of nickel plated Ruger Vaquero's in pairs, with sequential serial numbers. That's six multiple sale of handgun forms within the last fourteen months.
I told him I doubted ATF would be concerned about his multiple handgun purchases unless Vaquero's started showing up in Mexican drug cartel shootouts.

YOU don't fill out the form, the dealer fills out the form. Sounds like he's just lazy to me.

I bought another pistol today and of course.....I have to wait until Tuesday. My gun dealer says it may be that I've averaged one buy every 2 months for the last 14 months. But since there were 2 handgun purchases I walked out of the store with the day I bought them, this doesn't make sense. I think in some cases it's simply what kind of mood the person is in taking the call. Even my gun dealer is getting tired of this crap. I guess it shouldn't bother me.....but I think they should at least give you an explaination......but then that would only make the waiting period longer! I wanted to shoot it this week end.!!!! This sucks!!!!
